It was not Mountbatten's plot. It was a madcap idea of Cecil KIng of the Daily Mirror, and they proposed to involve him. There's never been any sensible suggestion that he would have responded positively.

This scene IS NOT historical. The entire incident is now believed to stem from an incident where Cecil King made an ill-advised comment that they should remove PM Harold Wilson during a heated argument. It was never a serious suggestion and Mountbatten wasn't even there, from what I read.

I don't agree with their coup but they weren't evil, they were doing what they thought was right for the country. Labour were actually making a mess of the economy and the unions were causing some of that mess.
