Great Collectors: The Jacques Garcia Collection

Jacques Garcia is undoubtedly one of the most respected interiors designers in the world.

To ensure a lasting future for his castle and his lifetime project, Champ de Bataille, which he has been carefully looking after for more than 30 years, he has decided to sell 75 pieces of furniture and art objects which adorn the rooms of the 17th century estate located in Normandy. Many of the works have royal provenances that call to mind various colourful personalities, from Du Barry to Marie-Antoinette and from the Duchess of Parma to the Rothschilds. They are the work of great cabinetmakers such as Gaudreaus, Oeben and Weisweiler, and they represent the quintessence of French taste.

In 1992 he purchased the castle, which Le Vau built for Alexandre de Créqui beginning in 1651, with Le Nôtre designing the surrounding gardens. It took him five years to restore the building. He renovated and refurbished the living rooms, the galleries, the game cabinets and the library.
Despite the adversities whilst rebuilding the castle, Jacques Garcia at 75 is still a dreamer.

Now there's a guy with impeccable taste. The French love their gilded furniture and I like it too.

It's extremely elegant and beautiful: the gardens, the buildings, the interiors, everything.

Et je, je, je... Moi, moi, moi...

Beautiful story about him being there as a child and saying something so profound for a child and then to later be in charge of it all

Wonderful ❤️

I brought a copy of a French commode of Charles Cressent made in the 1960’s by a Valencia cabinet maker. Superb copy, with gilded brass . Valencia it’s a region east of Madrid in the Mediterranean and they have a long tradition of furniture makers, some are very skilled. Amazing that we still have people able to build a art piece. I pay a lot but the real cressent commodes go for 1, 3 million of FRF. It’s have the close to the best. The real one very expensive but I feel this one was built for me. Would be a great exhibition with the real French furniture and the copies. Thanks for your video

I think great designers have fooled the world. They are natural hoarders that cover up their issues by only hoarding beautiful objects. Incredible talent ! but the best part that highlighted this mans genius was his garden ideas ! Taking something old and dated then mixing it up with new techniques, applications and compositions ? Only a well cultured person who studied all forms of art and history could be capable of such creations ! This man is truly one of a kind and a living treasure ❣

Je préfères de loin Champs de Bataille à Versailles d'un point de vue décoration intérieur. Rien n'est pompeux et excessif et l'harmonie visuelle est partout. Merci Monsieur GARCIA.

Beautiful! Question: why don't they make stairs like this anymore, low to step up on every step, they knew what they were doing, now they make steps high (hard for short legs to travel up upon).
