Crazy thing about Richter is he taught himself virtually everything, Neuhaus remarked that he came to him already a fully developed musician, and that he taught Richter "nothing". Richter on the contrary emphasised that Neuhaus taught him to loosen his shoulders in order to allow for the greatest tone production through his entire body.

Who really believes they only use their hand span?!? They play thinks like these since early childhood, so all of the virtuosos learn first how to use small hands before anything else.

Great upload, further documenting your ongoing point of recent days. Even if one has large hands and long fingers, awkward stretching and twisting is not observable in their playing. Rather, all the elements you cited, most especially, lateral forearm movement, not stretching to get into position, even small changes of position.

Mortensen has a thing where he suggests one analyze their piece in terms of hand position changes and mark each one with something like a breath mark. Figuring where one needs to move laterally, even a small distance, "viz a viz, " playing other notes from an anchored finger is pretty important, even with pedal. Each individual will be slightly different; the general principle is the same. Can't do without it in scales, arps and large leaps as well as avoiding injuries.

Another very helpful video. Thank you; we're all in this together, or at least should be.
