UPDATE: As predicted in the video, Blue will be named Windows 8.1, and it will be a low-cost (or free) update that is electronically distributed via the Windows Store.

CCL Excerpt #10 - A Crappy Demo of Windows Blue

During our live show, we decided to give a demo of the update to Microsoft's operating system, Windows Blue. However, it started to turn into a mini comedy. However, the good news is that the video is still semi-informative.

Personally, I have no problem with the Start button being gone because I am a keyboard shortcut fanatic. But it is tricky for normal users who are used to it being their since 1995.

Yes, when it's out. A preview is coming on June 26, but the final release date is unknown.

Good news. The start button will be back, and you can have your own backgrounds for the start screen. I am assuming they parallax effect will work on them, like the patterns.

I would disagree about the "under the hood stuff." I've read the feature list. 95%+ of the stuff on there are not under the hood changes. They don't count those as "features" necessarily. Thank you for your comment!

Tons of people, even people from The Verge, seem to be doing it and they're not getting in trouble.

I already encountered it, and I can still connect.

Usually Microsoft won't care, but I waited until they officially announced the dev preview for BUILD 2013.

It's going to be a new operating system, but for people using Win 8, it'll be a free update via the Windows Store or Windows Update.

It will be an update. It is Windows 8.1

Well, it can't really be OS X 10.- because the first dot in the OS X update pattern indicates a major release. Most of those updates contain at least 200 new features on average.

It will either be free, or very low cost.

Yeah, I think you're quite a bit misinformed. The search in Win 8.1 will work the same in the Explorer, but in the Modern interface, it will provide you with many more elaborate and detailed search results. Win 8.1 can also allow up to 4 Modern apps to be viewable at once, but the desktop still functions normally.

Windows 8 App = a Modern UI application
Desktop App = a traditional Windows EXE

you might be right, but only in some points. I can start browsing the web in less than 25 secs in Windows 8. and transitions do make it look like its faster, because it is a little bit faster and very smooth. I think it is better, other people have different opinions and I respect them.

I always want to go back to when certain operating systems were still in beta, or just a giant collection of every single windows beta iso from the past 9 years for me to look at and mess around with.

I have read that they will add one. This is still a test build.

I would have to disagree with you. Windows 8.1 is a new operating system that is entirely bootable, and you can install it without it being an "upgrade." Microsoft is also not calling it a service pack.

I don't know what happened with your computer, but Windows 8, for me anyways, uses WAY less resources, it works better with older computers more efficiently, and it boots off an SSD super-fast. But that's just me... I guess

People also say that the Windows Start Button will be back, but that they still keep the ModernUI Envoirement.

However... there are third party programs that bring back the Windows 7 Start Menu. (kind of)
The buttons are still Modern UI Style. (not rounded rectangles)
And Windows Aero is still not present in the third party applications.
