I love being a Catholic because we formally open a prayer with sign of the cross.

Protestant here, I believe that there is much we can learn from Catholicism, I do the cross after my prayers when I say in the name of the father, and the son, and the Holy Spirit amen. God bless you all!

I love my Catholic faith because I feel so safe in the faith.

Growing up a Protestant (a Scottish Presbyterian, in fact), making the sign of the cross was seen as superstition. Now I have studied my faith and been to many different denominations, I will occasionally cross myself in times of trouble or when I feel the pull to help others. For me, it is a reminder of Christ's sacrifice and love.

protestant here, it is nice to have the sign of the cross to remind us the nature of our God. It is not superstition if done in prayer.

A holy reminder to what I learned 60+ years ago. Thank you, Father, and welcome back.

I find much comfort in the sign of the cross. I had a Protestant question this as self administering a sacramental.

"I pray you cleanse my soul as it was on my Baptism" is commonly silently recited as one enters the Church and applies Holy Water to body in the sign of a cross to remember the sacrifices made for us.

My wife and I traced the sign of the cross on our only son's forehead when leaving him off at school, until his first day of High School, as he left the house at 6:30 AM when we were both asleep. As an adult catechist, I always emphasize the "Prayer" act and "Creedal" part of the blessing and baptismal promises the first session. You would be amazed how many people do not understand the deep theology of the Sign of the Cross, Catholic and non-Catholics.

Father Casey, it's great to see you back on YouTube.

The sign of the cross is like saying "hello" to God before we start a conversation with Him. I see it as being polite as well as grounding me about Whom I am praying to.

Thank you for the explanation. I do the Sign Of The Cross often, but I knew little of its history.

I started using the sign of the cross when I was confirmed as an Episcopalian. Of course, as a Catholic, I have continued the practice. I deliberately remember my baptism when I dip my fingers in holy water and cross myself as I enter the church before mass. I see it as a physical act that aids in a holy meditation.

Amen. I'm an Anglican and I make the sign of the cross all the time. Although I do it the same way round as the Roman Catholics, but with my fingers like the Orthodox. No idea where I picked that up from, I was doing it before my stint as an atheist.

The sign of the cross is a seal that scares away demons if done properly. Aditionally, when the hand is on the foreheard, it sanctifies your mind, on your belly it sanctifies your inner feelings, your shoulders it sanctifies your bodily strengths

Father Mark-Mary said it was a prayer in itself. A prayer of praise, bringing us to awareness of the Holy Trinity. I am never rushing through it ever again !
