If you REALLY want an Intel Gaming PC… Build Fix Ep 05 - July 2024
Build Fix is my monthly series with a simple goal -- helping viewers choose the right PC parts to build with when they are building a new gaming computer. Each episode covers multiple builds submitted by viewers, combing through parts lists to recommend the best CPU and GPU combos, the best SSDs for a gaming PC, the best memory for a gaming PC, the best gaming PC cases, the best gaming PC motherboards, and generally speaking the best bang-for-your-buck PC hardware so you can build a cost effective rig with maximum performance per dollar.

10:00 Talking about how the 5800X3D is $350 while failing to mention the 5700X3D being at or below $190 is a major miss.

I have a B450 motherboard that I have been milking for the last few years. It started its life with a Ryzen 5 3600 and a RTX 2060 and 16 GB of RAM. Then I upgraded to a 5800X3D and RTX 3060 Ti and doubled the RAM. The 3060 Ti worked its butt off while the 5800X3D barely ever saw over 30% utilization so I recently upgraded the 3060 Ti to a 4070 Ti Super and all is well. I have no plans on upgrading again for a long time. I don't need the latest and greatest for the games that I play and the other things that I use my PC for.

A friend has just requested a return and refund for his i9 13900K, as he has had the issues in question. He's also just purchased a B650 mobo and 7800X3D as replacement.

I did first time build using
1. Corsair 7000X Full Tower ATX case (WHITE) includes 4 QX 140mm fans
2. MSI MEG X670E ACE EATX AM5 motherboard
3. AMD RYZEN 9 7950X3D
4. Corsair ICUE Link H170i RGB CPU cooler
5. MSI Gaming TRIO CLASSIC Radeon RX 7900XTX 24GB Video Card
6. Corsair MP600 PRO LPX 4TB NVME SSD
7. Corsair HX1000i ATX power supply
8. Corsair Dominator Titanium First Edition 64GB DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory (2 x32 GB) 2boxes 4 ram sticks!
9. Corsair ICUE LINK QX 140 RGB ( 3 extra fans) for Push-Pull Arrangement
Total is 10 fans of QX140mm includes 4 that came with Corsair 7000X full tower case.
It was my first time so I think I might have gotten something wrong but it runs really fast and it’s beautiful 😍
Any advice I should make?

"stable Intel" gave me a laugh.

both intel and AMD have some diehard fans. the AMD fans were defending the Bulldozer cpus 10 years ago and now the intel fans are defending intels inefficient and defective cpus

I am not a AMD fanboi. In point of fact until my upgrade to an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X back in 2021 the last AMD CPU was an Athlon back in 2001. Anyone who has not touched AMD in a long time REALLY needs to stop assuming current AMD is the same as even 10 years ago. Outside long memory training times, the CPU and platform has been rock solid.

Intel wants people to think they're going to fix this with a microcode update lmao

The intel fanboys are mad about this one 😂 "erm its just a microcode error theyre fixing it we swear!"

Still rocking my I7 8700K with an EVGA RTX 3080. Not switching until 2027ish.

I have an MSI RX 6750 XT myself and it works great, above 100fps in most games, 60+ fps with avatar ray tracing max settings. It only struggles with cyberpunk on psycho settings but ultra with medium ray tracing and fsr runs 60+.

I’m glad I got a 12700k, because it has been awesome since I got it.

Hard to recommend anything Intel at the moment. Stay far away until they release the new Arrow Lake and even then wait a few months to a year to see what the guinea pigs are dealing with and if it's stable after a year then and only then can I recommend Intel.

Thanks Paul! GPU it is, AM4 till the end, and yes I had to flash bios on the b550 when I upgraded to the 5800x3d last year

I could use some advice. Built my first PC about 6.5 years ago, i5 6600K and a 1060 6GB OC. Has been great for a long time just playing at 1080p, but recently started playing Horizon: Forbidden West and I knew I was sacrificing a lot of visual quality in a particularly pretty game. I wanted to play cyberpunk and a few other intensive games so I decided it was time to upgrade. Ended up going with a 4070 super OC and got a 1440p ultrawide monitor. Looks great so far! Went from low/medium settings at 40-60 FPS to high/ultra at between 60-100 depending on what area I’m in and what’s going on. I figured my CPU would be underpowered and when I checked in Task Manager real quick, I saw the CPU is pinned at 100% on all cores while the GPU is only at 15-20%, didn’t think the bottleneck would be that bad. DLSS and FSR don’t seem to do much whether I have them on or not either. I’m thinking I probably do want to upgrade my CPU, but that means CPU, mobo, cooler, and potentially RAM. Any suggestions? Don’t want to totally break the bank but also don’t want to buy so low I get left in the dust in a year or two. I’ve been out of the loop for awhile on hardware and any commentary would be appreciated. Thanks!

Don't forget that if you go intel, there is a chance that there will be PCI-e lane sharing between m.2 and SATA ports because of the low amount of PCI-e lanes directly from the CPU. For example, if you want both m.2 ports for SSD's, the board may turn off SATA ports or PCI-e slots. Check the motherboard's manual you are considering before pulling the trigger if you are wanting to load that board with devices to make sure it will support everything.

Since we're all talking about hardware, just replaced my RX480 (had it since launch) with a 7800xt, what a jump.

The 480 will got in a spare box with a Ryzen 5 4500. Perfect backup box.

i had a 12900k, had constant crashes while gaming. finally replaced it to a 14900k and zero crashes. that being said i also switched my gpu from 3080ti to 4080 super.
