I can confirm from experience - 18 fails before getting Celebi - that the 38 potions in slot 2 and Togepi in party slot 3 are necessary.

This was the last mystery i had to discover in Gen 1 and 2.
Ive finally completed Gen 1 and 2 to 100%.

Thanks for making this video but there's one flaw once you have Celebi it doesn't count in the Pokedex but I found a way around this. Trade it over to a friend then trade it back it will then count in then Pokedex, hope this helps.

There were so many stories about how to do this when I was a kid, and they weren't widely verifiable without the internet. One such idea was to breed meganium and Alakazam at the day care centre. Never worked. I'm so glad there was actually a way, I wish I just knew this as a kid!

Everybody talks about Mew, but Celebi is actually the most difficult pokemon to get. I got my Mew in Pokemon Red & Blue through a glitch very easily, so now I gotta try ur method to catching Celebi which lemme tell u, is alot more difficult than activating the Mew glitch.

I'm still pissed at myself for losing my soul silver game when I was 12. I had beaten everything, got a level 100 typhlosion, and got all the legendaries. I'm replaying the game right now, but I'm still pissed at myself after all these years.

February 2022 and it still works! 38 of item #2 though. My winning team was a lv4 Wooper, lv4 Pidgey for Fly, lvl 6 Hoppip and then Quagsire. Thanks Skul!

Back when I played this on GBC, it puzzled me that the developers created an uncatchable pokemon.

Any ideas on how to obtain the Metal Powder (or an alternative that works)?
I have been farming dittos (I have catched around 10) but none was holding any item.
Also does the glitch corrupt the game? I have obtained all legendary pokemons (including 3x dogs) so it wouldnt be nice.
UPDATED: The glitch worked perfectly with Metal Coat instead of Metal Powder. I assume there are other "fourth" items that work instead, so you do not have to waste all your energy on catching Dittos.

I had a perfect Pokedex on Silver without any glitches or cheats. Got Celebi at an event when I was a kid. Can't believe my parents allowed me to sell it! 😥

My best friend died a couple years ago and I wish so bad I could trade to him the celebi I just got 2nd try using this glitch, just to see his face. We played for hours each! When we first discovered the mew glitch we were both so jacked we tried multiple “hacks” for celebi, bad clone, smearagle eggs. We ended up getting 248 Pokémon each. We were missing two of the 1st gen legendary birds and celebi. I’m up to 250 now just need blissy.

I just made the 2000th like at this video! Great explanation on everything, also many thanks to Guilherme on his comment that the number of item no2 has to be 38. Only then did it work. Before that, I got to know that the Pokémon in my party are correct since the use of coin case did not crash the game. From that point, I also had to get both Pokémon and their egg from day care (I had forgotten them for the entire game, Ditto grew 20 lvls), and also change item 2 (x38), before eventually getting the Celebi!
