This virtual engine sound when driving slowly forward is totally obnoxious. One of the joys of driving electric is the smooth quiet power and acceleration. I think NHTSA got hoodwinked by the gasmobile crowd into believing that this is a necessary safety feature. That said the reverse beeps does work really well in shopping center parking lots with unpredictable pedestrians waling every which way.
