Dennis Rodman locks down Shaq - 1996 ECF Game 1

I already included this game in the Rodman vs Shaq documentary, and LamarMatic already did a great job highlighting Rodman's defense in this game, but I wanted to make a separate video that focused purely on Rodman's defense on Shaq during Game 1 of the 96 ECF.

After abusing Longley and Wennington, Shaq only scored 2 points when Rodman switched on him, then padded his stats in the 4th quarter when they got blown out

Probably the most underrated defender at the time. Everyone wanted to be Jordan, the jumpshots, dunks. I just wanted to be like Rodman, defense and boards.

Anyone here because Shaq said his Lakers team would beat the Bulls because no one on the Bulls could guard him? Funny that he forgot Rodman.

People don't realize Rodman's work ethic. He put enormous effort in in the gym and was insanely strong for his size. He was also obsessive about studying video, learning every opponents tendencies and how they impacted everything from backing down in the post to the general trajectory of their misses. The intelligence clearly displayed in his approach to the game is vastly underrated. And that's not even factoring in the psychological games he'd play against opponents either.

"Rodman has as many rebounds as the Magic has as a team"

Despite his weird activities off the court, Dennis Rodman has to be one of the most intelligent basketball players of all time without a single doubt. GOAT defender.

Rodman is ridiculously physically strong. Shaq can't move him when he's backing him up. Just astounding strength.

It's amazing that Rodman had the strength and leverage to push Shaq out past his comfort area.  Rodman was listed at 6'8" but I've read he's probably closer to 6'6" or 6'7".  Shaq was 300+ pounds at that time and for Rodman to give up the amount of height and weight to him yet still be able to effectively guard him was nothing short of amazing.

This is why Rodman is in my all-time starting 5. Most people's all time 5 is all about scoring, but only one person can score at a time... everyone lineup thrives with a player like Rodman on the floor, and he was the best at doing the dirty work the game has ever seen.

on that brutal defense, rodman still make a 13 points and what a holy water gun 21 rebounds... amazing

Rodman was so athletically gifted, freakishly strong and with a very high basketball IQ. Studying his opponents and learning to anticipate their misses; ball-spin, the arc of their shot, etc.
