Gotta love that classic BMW NA I6 sound from the N52 engine.. The last of it's kind unfortunatly (together with it's weaker brother the 23i).. Others may find it a bit stupid, but that's what makes the 30i special for me and one of the reasons it was the version of E89 Z4 to get, even when I know the 35i (N54 I6 3.0L) with turbo is more powerfull, faster and sounds great to (even louder)..

Once you "heard" bmw's 6-cylinder straight engine, you dont want to exchange it for a 4-cylinder supercharged one, even if it has more bhp :)

drkuthan everything you said is true. Turbocharged engines can produce much higher bhp and torque, while being quite reliable (most of them) and have lower consumption. That's all great for normal everyday cars, but in sports cars you do lose that feeling of responsivness, crispness and the linear power delivery. To some people the feel of driving is more important than just higher performance figures.

Xds stands for electronical lock i hope you know and does a great job. A focus rs with mechanical diff lock does 0-60 approximately the same times as a scirocco r. Weight is a big problem and i know that the new z series are much lighter and they have left the atmosferic engines and changed them with the turbos. Polo gti has no chance against them :))

Also we have modded lots of cars incl. 1.4 tsi, 2.0 tfsi cars and never had problems with the turbo.

having a turbo gives much better low end torque which means you can squize lot more hp from the engine. Like 240 hp from only 2 liter 4 cylinders. Before it had to be 3 liter V6 which was worse on the mileage and also less powerful.

stage 2 is software plus exhaust etc upgrades with the stock turbo

they already use tri-turbos on diesel engines and the incoming M series, also reducing the weight of the cars

you should know that a 3 liter engine plus big turbo means incredible power and here i am not denying this power all i am saying is a stock 1.4 liter engine with soft upgrades can easily smoke a 3 liter atmospheric z4

Now the turbo engines have better acceleration and mileage and low emission also small engines which helps the weight reduction. Till electric cars rule turbocharged cars will be the choice by the manufacturers. I guess .Greetings to you too.These days it is hard to have a good conversation like this
