I’ve often considered the argument that the brain is akin to a “radio set” connecting the soul with the human body.
You would require a gateway for the soul to control the body itself and the brain provides this function.
Just like a radio will often yield only incoherent noise if it is physically damaged, the brain when damaged will not allow the body to function correctly. Enough damage and each stops functioning altogether.

I think the answer to this is that no where do we find a human mind without a brain attached. I noticed for example that my wonderful witty grandfather's mind was no longer extant after his brain died along with the rest of him. The brain being physical, is subject to physics. Mind is part of what a human brain does. Without Picasso's brain no more picasso's have been made.
