Velomobile Quest 474 - Hood hinge mechanism

I got tired of the Sinnerbikes hood slipping off my Quest's nose whenever there's a gust of wind outside, or whenever I get in or out of the velo and I'm not careful not to shake it. That poor hood's taken a few tumbles already, and it's all scratched up as a result - visor included.

To solve the problem, I made a hinge mechanism, so that the hood is permanently attached to the velomobile's shell and can't fall off when it's open anymore.

Well I've thought about that. That's why the hinge is made of 5 mm styroboard, which is barely strong enough to hold the hood in place on the velo's nose but somewhat soft and mushy so that it ought to break or crumble if hit.

In any case, if I crash hard enough to worry about slicing my head off on the hinge, I'm fairly sure the hood's sharp edges and the velo itself will slice my nose off and crush my chest too :)

I saw this in your post (BROL), it really is a neat looking and smooth working hinge system. If I ever get a hood, I will be copying this design.

It's nicely designed, but what about crash safety, looks like it could slice your head off in a crash.(worst case scenario, I know, but something to think about)
