I like how casually Paul walks past the sardukar to get to the baron, like “I’ll be with you in a second”

In the books, water is held to be sacred. The water of the dead, friend or enemy, was always removed from their body and placed in reservoirs of water for safe keeping. By burning those bodies, the freemen were showing their utter contempt for them since all of their water was being released into the atmosphere to be dispersed on the wind.

People wanted a big fight, but this was perfect. Showed how bad Rabban was as a warrior and fighter and how skilled Gurney is. No messing around either, Gurney wanted that man dead immediately.

I really love the decision to make Gurney take out Rabban with a single counter. It drives home what we've seen the whole film: Rabban was all bark, no bite.

People forget exactly how personal this really was for gurney…in the books not only was he a slave to house harkonnen for a decade growing up as a child but rab was one of his personal tormentors he even stood up to him and spit in his face as a kid slave

The Fremen holding the Atreides banner aloft as Gurney storms forward is one of the most awesome things I've ever seen in the cinema.
The sheer attention to detail they gave it.

2003: "THAT'S FOR FRODO. THAT'S FOR THE SHIRE. AND THAT'S FOR MY OLD GAFFER."

2024: "FOR MY DUKE AND MY FRIENDS."

Of all the adjustments Denis Villeneuve made to his material, this is perhaps the most fitting. In the book, Rabban died 'off-screen' as it were, and he was executed by the Emperor for the shambles Arrakis had become under his rulership. Gurney, on the other hands, seeks the 'reward' of facing off against Feyd-Rautha, and his request is denied by Paul. So, having Gurney getting his 'reward' of killing a Harkonnen by killing Rabban on-screen, ties up some otherwise niggling loose ends!

Loved how they put faces to the sardaukar with their helmets off in the throne room. They all looked like salty veterans not evil soldiers like the Harkonnen, especially the commander. Made me wish they lasted longer or seen them put up a fight instead they just had the first squad fade into battle and second just stand there protecting the Emperor as the scene changed.

Gurney is such an *epic* character, and Brolin plays him perfectly!

You know.. come to think of it... as much as the Fremen value water... you'd have to think that using flamethrowers on the enemy dead has to be their gravest of insults.... literally saying their water was not worthy of being on their planet.

1:20 - There's all positively terrified of Paul, because he is bloodied and his knife is bloodied, which means he was at the front of whoever it was just cut through the imperial Sardaukar, even the emperor's bodyguards are probably unnerved, and Feyd is like "yum yum".

We are going to think back in 20 years how lucky we were to be alive during the same time Dune part 2 came to theaters

Earlier in the film, they outright confirm that Rabban killed Gurney's original family like he did in the book, but he doesn't mention them at all here and kills him solely to avenge Leto and the other Atreides.

Gurney may not be Fremen himself, but he's just as blindly radicalised by his loyalty to Paul and the Atreides as they are.

The cinematography with the Sardaukar going into the smoke and just disappearing — not even a shout or the sound of knives — just disappearing is so chilling and fcking amazing. Same with the Ornithopter that explodes behind the smoke in the Worm army scene.

Fun fact: in the books, Baron Vladimir is actually killed by Paul's young sister, Alia Atreides, who is but a child at this point, with the gom jabar. I believe Villeneuve wanted to avoid having to cast a young actress for what would have been a very strange and difficult role, of an adult inside the body of a child, which is what Alia is at this point in time.

I love that Feyd Rautha doesn’t even move. He almost looks like he admired Paul just walking in and getting straight to business. Probably exactly the way Feyd would have done it
