today we got out on the water with a newer 2021 GTX 170 and raced it against my GTX 230. Was a pretty close race off the start but the top speed is a pretty big difference. The 230 as assumed blew out the 170. But to me the 170 is a GTI but it being a GTX It has the nicer features and better hull design. It’s not a top performance ski but for sure had great ride quality and great fuel economy. A great ski for those that aren’t looking for super speed. Hope y’all enjoy this comparison. I just purchased a new 2023 GTX 170 and I love it. Its got all the power I could ever need and it so comfortable to ride. Ive seen 58 on it so far but as it gets hours it seems to get faster. Has a whopping 13.6 hrs on it.. I love the access to the front storage and everything about it. My son is 18 and he just purchased the 2023 GP1800R HO. Now that thing is on another level.

Should just gun it off the start - would be great to see the holeshot differences rather than just top speed differences. Appreciate the content though 👌

Given I use a PWC in tidal waters I find reviews done on lakes irrelevant; I wish I could count on waters as calm at this; however in tidal waters the incoming and outgoing tide creates ever changing wave conditions. On the Chesapeake I may cross the bay easily with almost a calm surface; a couple hours later as the tide rushes in or out there are 3-4' waves, and with large boats coming through it can get even worse. I value above all a hull designed to cut through waves followed closely by range.

if you ride both skis at the same pace, gas mileage should be about the same... but if you have more power available, you're likely going to use it and consume more.
But for the same performance, you need roughly the same energy (i.e. the petrol). Small differences in engine efficiency between both engines have only a small impact on fuel consumption.

i'd rather the 170 just to save fuel !

The engine is the same but the difference is the supercharger and the propeller with more weight. The acceleration seems to be more or less the same but the speed is higher in the 230. Nevertheless in choppy water, the leader is the pilot but the power
