Endometriosis is often misdiagnosed as IBS! So ladies, if you have loads of pain from periods and all the awful symptoms of periods but your drs have diagnosed you with IBS, ask to speak to a gynecologist. 🥰

I had some serious IBS symptoms. And I realized what was causing it so I quit my job and got a new one and I haven't had an episode sense. My job was stressing me out so much I would have up to 10 IBS flare ups in one day. The stomach brain connection is so important

Mind blown! Ibs has always been a thorn in my side from a diagnosis and exam perspective. This makes it seem much in a good way

I have IBD and for 4 years I was dismissed for having IBS until it got so bad I needed emergency surgery and ended up losing 50 lbs (I weighed 90 lbs and I’m a 5’9” male) I’m now in endoscopic remission thanks to an amazing team of GI specialists 😊

I was mis-dxed with IBS as a teenager. I was told I needed to learn to relax and prescribed tranquilizers. Things have changed since the 1970s.

Turns out I have severe dairy (specifically milk fat) and gluten allergies. When those foods are removed, voila, no more IBS. For decades, I thought this dx was a dumping ground for doctors that didn't know what else to call my pain and just wanted me to just shut up and leave.

Really glad there are legitimate treatments for people with legitimate issues. I suppose anything can be misdiagnosed.

Love your vids and wigs.

Thanks for this. I assumed this was a catch-all term, and that in my doctor’s eyes, the I in IBS is silent! Feels much less hopeless to hear that it’s a real thing.

Wow!!!! Thank you so much for this. That was the most informative and well spent 60 seconds of my life! I have IBS and severe gastritis and you gave me more concise information in one minute than my own doctor has in two years. Love this! And yes, I subscribed! 👏👏👏👏❤️

as a counselor in training i'm so interested in this gut psychotherapy idea, we're starting to talk about mind/body connection a lot so that's really exciting :)

The brain-body connection is so much stronger than people realize. And there’s still so much we don’t understand about the brain!

When I was diagnosed with it 4 years ago they definitely treated it as a diagnosis of exclusion. All the same, it was reassuring that autoimmune disease & cancer, etc. were ruled out.

Never heard of gut psychotherapy before! My psych & GI specialist were both very hopeful that the SSRI’s I started for mental health would fix my IBS, but sadly it did not…

I had an ER Dr. diagnose me with stress induced IBS on Valentine’s Day two years ago which made a lot of sense (finally went cause I had healthcare and it had gotten so bad that I was severely dehydrated). Anytime I had been particularly busy or had a distressing life change, it was nonstop bathroom breaks. It was even worse when I had it in high school because I was too nervous to go at school then I stressed more about how I was gonna make it all day without using the restroom that I eventually caved and I tried going during discreet times lol. It’s so interesting to know just how much your mental state can affect your daily life in ways you may not realize at first.

Thank you for this! I w had this my whole life but was originally misdiagnosed. 30 years my diagnosis was revised to IBS and anti-anxiety medication to control my GI symptoms and this actually saved my life!

My mum was diagnosed with IBS. few years of a doctor telling her it’s just some you will have to get used to. He was wrong it was bowel cancer and it killed her… slowly she ended up starving to death. They never did a colonoscopy until it was too late. 3+ years of s symptoms before they took it seriously.

I was diagnosed with IBS but I was lucky to see a recently trained gastroenterologist. He encouraged me to get a test for fructose malabsorption. Once I went on the FODMAP diet all symptoms disappeared. Australia has led research into this intolerance. I feel sorry for people in other countries where the GIs aren't aware of it and only have this take.
From my understanding Australian researchers think up to 40% of people diagnosed with IBS will have their symptoms disappear once they follow a FODMAP diet.
NB I was diagnosed 13 years ago and my symptoms have lessened and allowed me to reintroduce or consume more of certain foods.

I was diagnosed with hormone related IBS. I had a progesterone implant and over the 3 yrs I had it my stomach pain got worse to the point I was nearly fainting with some poops. Colonoscopy was normal. First GI doctor told me it couldn't be related to hormones but 2 weeks after the implant was out the pain had decreased drastically and would only come back around my period. New GI is very supportive.

There was a time when they thought I had IBS, who thought that would’ve been the good diagnosis. I have gastroparesis, short gut, EoE, and all the problems that come with constantly struggling with malnutrition and dehydration. Without my central line I can’t stay hydrated, and my G/J tube lets me vent without getting sick, and try to get tube feed in. The worst is dumping syndrome, I would love to have a conversation with the person that came up with that name. When you have to answer questions saying you’re, “dumping a lot” it’s not fun.

I just finished my Digestive System lesson for my Medical Terminology course, so this came right on time testing my knowledge retention and vocab!

Sure is a lot of fun when you’ve got a whole HANDFUL of other conditions that are known to trigger and affect IBS symptoms in all the worst ways, meaning any time I get stressed atm I’m just guaranteed to be ill.
