Dark Reality Of Bollywood Luxury Fashion

Luxury fashion brands have mastered the art of playing on our aspirations and insecurities.

In this video, filmed in the fashion capital of Milan, I explore the intricate web connecting Bollywood, luxury brands, and pop culture. From Stray Kids’ collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger to Jennie Kim's 200-hour custom Alaïa outfit, brands dominate the conversation with their marketing powerhouses.

We dive into Burberry’s infamous pearl dress and the century-old heritage of brands like Prada, Chanel, and Cartier, all found here in Milan. But beneath the glamor lies a darker truth: middle-class consumers are sold entry-level luxury while the elite enjoy true exclusivity with quiet, tailored luxury pieces.

I also discuss the Punjabi music industry's obsession with luxury brands and how Bollywood has used fashion to influence consumption habits for decades. Yet, behind the scenes, brands like Dior and Gucci have been accused of unethical practices, from exploiting cheap labor to deceiving consumers with fake "Made in Italy" tags.

In this deep dive, we question whether the luxury we aspire to is even real. Are we buying status or being manipulated by clever marketing? Watch to uncover the dark side of luxury fashion and how these brands thrive on aspiration

Somebody said, “Gucci is what poor people think rich people wear”.
Mainstream “luxury” fashion brands are never worn by actually wealthy people. That’s where the “silent luxury” phenomenon happens. It’s understated, exclusive & custom-made.

For me owing handloom items like embroidered shirts, khadi trousers, bamboo chairs, wooden toothbrush, solar panels on my rooftop, having a beautiful terrace garden, drinking in copper or glass water bottles and having a big study room of my own with lots of books real luxury! And I am glad I live a luxurious life 😊

I never understood the hype round these luxury brands; you can literally find way better and beautiful things from local markets.

I'm going to teach my kids about animals, physics, and how to ride a dirt bike, so when they're out exploring the world, they can rely on their knowledge—not Gucci, Louis Vuitton, or Rolex. Techwear is allowed tho

Luxury brands are coming to India because the market in China is drying up. The Chinese have wised up and stopped spending money on these so-called luxury brands. So India is the next target. Recently, Chanel beauty products are available for online purchase, which is a great example of their plans for expansion in the country. I'm sure we are going to see more boutiques open up in the metros in the years to come. There is a lot of money to be made from the class-conscious, affluent upper middle class in India, and you best believe it will be exploited. Everyone wants our money, we need to be wise and spend it on things that matter.

Nobody needs this Guccipucci crap. Character is important, not brands. Karan Johar thinks cheating on your partner is cool. No thanks. Character is important, not what you wear

Luxury goods are a great study on materialism, consumerism and capitalism. It catered mostly to those who are not rich but wants to look rich.

Well put together, really nice videos. Same goes for skincare, the focus should be on ingredients suitable for skin type and not on the pricing or brand. ✨👸

One of the most informative and exhaustive videos on luxury fashion. Pronunciations were off but kudos to the research effort.

Luxury is not for middle class and poor people. And India is a country of middle class people. So common people will not understand. We dont belong to the high class society. So it's simple that people who don't have money will not understand luxury.

What a masterpiece explanation of how people have been exploited for decades without realising the power of marketing! This video is an eye opener for those who are still pleading and flaunting their luxury brands to others!

only suggestion from my side, that always prioritize quality over brand or cost. if you are buying a thing which you may use for years, buy a good quality one. it may be bit expensive than similar looking road side things and less expensive than the brands. trust me its worth it. i always prefer titan for watches, which i bought before 5 years, it is in perfect condition, even its color also same and i am still using it. i may buy tops for cheap price but always prefer good quality bottoms. so spend your money wisely and happily than for the validation from society

Should’ve mentioned how Kanye west went against everything a “celebrity brand” is supposed to be and made affordable clothes that not only sold millions but forced other company’s to shift towards a “Yeezy” look.
