Rear Caliper and Handbrake problem (Seat Leon Mk1)

The first Caliper rear left and where the handbrake cable attaches to feels really stiff compared to the right.

And then when pulling up the handbrake does this confirm that the problem is with the first rear left caliper? Has it seized that's why the cable will not match up to the right cables length?

Thanks.

Thank you for sharing your technique Our 2013 Kia Soul sat for a week in the mid-May heat in SE Ohio, and when we returned, we couldn't release the parking brake. The car wouldn't roll, but dragged one wheel along the ground. Jacked it up, attempted to remove the wheel, but couldn't. and after trying a rubber mallet, switched to a sledge hammer and tapped around firmly, until the wheel started to rotate freely once again. I was worrying about hiring a tow truck to drag it out of our narrow, walled driveway to a shop for major repairs. We still have to get that wheel off to replace the tire eventually (tire tread is worn but not gone...NOT as a result of this issue) but we can do it at a time of OUR choosing. Thanks again for showing us what you did.

Fixed, found out it was not the calipers at fault, the pads on one side were stuck. So gave them a good clean with wire brush, coppergreased the pads and greased up the slider pins. Then wind the pistons back all the way, put all back together, pulled the handbreak up servral times and the cables now are level and holding car after 2 clciks. :)

The issues was the hand break lever on the back of the calliper wasn’t returning to the stop, this has to be back completely for the self adjustment mechanism to work. Your rear right was back as it should be. Wd40 and a few hammer taps to the lever so it went back fully should’ve made the mechanism work again.

Ive got same issue. I too have noticed that both my cars do not have the return springs fitted to them. You can buy them off ebay for 7 quid. That would help for sure

i got exactly the same ptoblem the cable dont match up to the right cables length. but i think i know what is. when i changed the pads. i couldnt put the piston back. (i used a proper tool) i took it to the garage. after 30 minutes of hard work. lots of hammering and this and that he managed to put it back. he said it may not working properly. i went back to my place. put the new pads on. but my handbrake has gone all completely. the two cables were disconnect from inside. i reconnected but them dont match up. im thinking to change the caliper now.

The spraying can't fix the problem! You need to remove the calipers, removing the rubbers, cleaning the rust, greasing and fixing everything back!

I have a rt rear pb (04 gti) that doesn't return on its own...lft rear is OK..I'm thinking of adding return springs to aid in releasing the lever and prevent pad dragging...I can't figure out why one side is good and the other isn't
