How to Kill Wasps with Boric Acid and Wasp Nest Decoy DIY

Here's a tip for you. It's best to spray them at night. They are all at home and they won't leave the nest. Since they won't leave the nest, there's less chance of you getting stung by one that is too quick for your spray.

Anyone who insensitive to this hasn't been stung by a wasp.

For those interested, I think this works because bugs like wasps, roaches and ants breathe through the exoskeleton. Once you stop that by the use of water, they die. The soap helps to break the surface tension of the water and allows it to get into the tiny pores that they use to breathe.

If you have a wasp or hornet flying around inside, zap it with a blast of hair spray. Coats the wings and they fall to the ground where you can deliver the old stomp.

Blue Dawn is the most miraculous multipurpose potion you can buy off the store shelves. Always have a bottle on hand

I had a problem with ground wasps outside my front door. Tried spraying wasp spray to get rid of them but it never killed the best and they kept coming back. Finally saw this and filled a couple 5 gallon buckets with hot soapy water and put on long pants and a hooded sweatshirt. Went out at 4am and dumped it down the hole and that did it. I dug up a nest that was the size of a softball.

As a side note. You can add a few drops of peppermint extract and use as a deterrent for months. I spray in the cracks and crevices of my vehicles and under the eaves of the house and it keeps them away. I guess the soapy water captures the peppermint oil and then attaches it to whatever you spray it on. Then the water evaporates leaving the peppermint that is a natural bug repellent.

Recently I got stung 7-8 times in like 10 seconds but wasps I never seen before, turns out there was a nest just under the stairs and when I walked by they attacked. People who give these videos a thumbs down have never been stung by a wasp...I get that they are important for pollinating, but if they are very close to your home, someone could get hurt and in some cases even die. I got stung near the arm pit and my arm was red down to the elbow. my entire calf was red, ankles were bitten, chest, they were super aggressive.

I put protective cloth on, and sprayed the heck out of the nest with soapy water, it works great and non-toxic (as opposed to commercial instant wasp killers which are really bad, they even recommend showering and washing your clothes after using it...that should be enough of a warning).

The soapy water doesn't kill them instantly (can take a few minutes), but they slow down and often can't fly...they definitely no longer feel like attacking you. Add some peppermint essential oil in the mix, and it should prevent them from building another nest there. Commercial wasp sprays should be removed from the market when such a cheap and safe solution exists.

I heard about this method years ago, but never had the nerve to try it. A few months ago, I was placed in a situation with wasps, and all I had was Simple Green. Might not worked as well a Dawn, but was non-toxic, and certainly took care of the situation. Thanks for spreading the word. Of course for those that are “sensitive”, you’re now going to have to have a mass funeral/burial. I suggest toothpicks for the Crosses ; )

Who’d be sensitive to seeing wasps getting sprayed? I’d have used a flame-thrower on them for good measure.

Hey Bruce, Just wanted to say that I've been using spray bottles filled with diluted liquid soap (or as you said, grease cutting dish soap) to kill just about everything that I don't want in my house or apartment for DECADES; most of my life! from Ants to flies to Spiders!!! For Wasps, Hornets, African Bees, etc., rather than getting that close, I took the bottle of concentrated liquid SOAP, turned on a garden hose to heavy sort of mist setting, then started feeding the SOAP in front of the nozzle while pointing it at the nest! (There are some rigs you can get for spraying poisons using your hose, but filling it with SOAP is just as much if not more effective from all my past experiences...) And INSIDE your HOUSE you're also cleaning your wall or tile floor rather than putting some kind of CHEMICALS and POISONS you have no idea how they'd affect your loved ones!) -- TheStarman.

Your method worked perfectly. The wasp nest was the size of a softball, so I took precautions with long sleeves etc... Went out at dawn with dishsoap in sprayer and killed the entire nest. None flew off and so far, no wasps have come to rebuild. Thank You!!!

My neighbor recently found a wasp nest size of 3 basketballs inside on the floor of his shed, i told him to go to Costco buy a jug of dish soap. i made a thick mix of dish soap and water in my foam blaster and attached it to my pressure washer and just saturated the whole nest and the inside of the shed with foam. and i repeatedly stabbed the nest with the foam blaster and sprayed foam repeatedly. 15 min later most of the wasp dead any stragglers we just shop vac with some water and dish soap inside the canister. I got me a case of beer in return!

I know from experience, this works. Every spring, hornets were building a nest on the inside of my car trunk door. Tried the dish soapy water remedy and worked like a charm. For extra assurance I use Mrs. Meyers Dish Soap in Lemon Verbena or Peppermint scent, as both lemon or peppermint essential oils repel and kill wasps/hornets.

I've heard people suggest this method, but I was always afraid to try it because I didn't want to be the one guy who went out and tried to spray wasps with soapy water and then just ended up getting stung by soapy wasps. Thank you so much for demonstrating. I'm going to make some bottles!

Those dead wasps must be the cleanest dead wasps that I've ever seen! Much easier than handling different liquids just use fly spray. Works fine. Simple. Just remember to do the deed after sunset when "all" the wasps are at "home" for the night, on their nests. Later, squash the nests to make sure of total victory!

best part was the "happy" music playing as he destroys the wasps and their nest. this method seems very cool, as it looks instantaneous... nice vid, sir!

While pulling down ivy from my house, I felt stinging pain on the side of my face. Never even saw the wasps. I got stung 3 times. Little bastards. I ran into the house and grabbed a can of hairspray. Sprayed the nest and that ended that!

What I'd most like to know, is how you trained the wasps to build a nice, accessible nest for the purposes of the demonstration 😁
