Why not use vinegar instead? I would freak out thinking I might be drinking lysol. Albeit very miniscule amounts... Vinegar should be good enough to kill most bacteria, and as an added bonus it removes calcium buildup and mineral deposits. I put some in a plastic bag and rubberband it around our showerhead to clean it, and soak our faucet aerators as well to cleanse both!
One caveat to using vinegar is that it is abrasive to rubber! That includes rubber seal rings. So if you see rubber or think there may be rubber somewhere along the line where it might be disposed of, better off using something different. (This is why I do not use vinegar in our washing machine)

Idk what’s worse, the filth or the chemicals. 😳

None of those cleaning supplies should EVER be used near items you consume even if you think you have cleaned away the chemicals.

I just attempted to clean mine but I used chemicals on the outside and mostly vinegar... thank you for showing me I'm not gross but this is normal...i just have to stay on top of it from now onwards. X

It would have been helpful to see how the compartment was removed to expose the dispenser

That chunk that fell was just a calcium deposit.. Harmelss

I think in this case it would be MUCH safer to use vinegar to clean

Maybe you should replace your filter more frequently. That’s a lot of hard water and calcium buildup

This is making me worried about ingesting chemicals 😰 how can you be sure you got all the cleaning fluid out of the filter?

Should use vinegar on these things. It's going on something that dispenses water you'll be drinking after all. Vinegar would deal with all that gunk ehile also being safe to consume if, by chance, residue is left on the equipment. Use something like a plastic bag is even vinegar soaked kitchen towel so the vinegar can make contact with the dispenser and leave it for awhile before scrubbing and maybe using a strae cleaner to really get in there.

That’s not mold, it’s hard water build up

The white chunks are limescale caused by hard water. Water filters remove bad tastes and odors, but they don’t filter hard water minerals
