I have the a250's and a23's. They do sound great powered with a Yamaha RX-A700

Not sure what Boston Acoustics is up to with these new speakers but I have a pair of A-40's and they are excellent. For a small room or as satellite speakers with a sub woofer. Their only real drawback is a lack of very deep bass. The A-40's do reach down to 65Hz (+/- 3dB) and have remarkably wide dispersion and a stunning high frequency response. Cannot fault them sonically. They require a minimum of 5 watts of power for good sound. I have a pair of the A-40's in my kitchen system powered by a Pioneer SX-434 receiver (15wpc) and use a Nakamichi BX-1 cassette deck with them.

The Boston Acoustics A-40 is a small two-way bookshelf speaker (it could reasonably be described as a "mini-speaker") that delivers exceptional performance at a very low price. The crossover between its 6-1/2-inch acoustic-suspension woofer and 3/4-inch dome tweeter is at 3, 500 Hz, with 6-dB-per-octave slopes.


I got my A-40's fully restored in 2015 and paid $80 for the pair. Not bad for speakers from 1982.

Yes! & after that comes a25s & I have the a 26s. They r as powerful as my towers

Absolute garbage speakers. Original Boston Acoustic where killer prior to being bought out by the Japanese company that makes this garbage. These are Boston Acoustic only in name, they have absolutely nothing to do with the original company.
