Love this video... every first-time visitor should watch this! I also once had the stereotypical "desert" image in my mind, further reinforced by films/tv shows always adding a sepia tone to Mexico scenes 🙄😂

Hola mi amigos✌🏻🤙🏻
Great video. It’s funny how many misconceptions people have about Mexico. Maybe though it’s good that people harbor some misconceptions so that it doesn’t get too crowded. Wishing you both Feliz navidad y prospero ano Nuevo🫶🏻✌🏻🤙🏻

Hola Marc y Paulette! Feliz Navidad! Another misconception.... Not all beach cities in Mexico are hot and humid. Here in Ensenada it was a very chilly 44 degrees last night and it's only supposed to get up to a sunny 64 today with a humidity level of 55%. In the summer it tends to stays in the upper 70's to lower 80's and still cools off at night. The main reason for this is that the ocean temperature along this stretch of coast in Baja stays between 66 in the summer and down to 57 during the winter so it helps to keep it a moderate temperature year round. BTW- It's after 12 and with the predominate cement wall construction found throughout Mexico it's only 54 inside my place. BRRR! Wishing you and yours a happy holiday season!

All great points. I think from an American perspective the biggest is that Mexico is just beaches. I prefer colonial cities to beach cities, but that seems to be major. I love chilaquiles, have you tried enchiladas mineras. Those are yummy. My favorite Chinese (Mexican Chinese) food I have ever had was in Mexicali, fried shrimp with chipotle sauce is amazing 🤤

Thanks for this video. In comparing Mexico to the US, the US also has a wide variety of cultures, and nothing irritates me more than people who assume that. We have different foods regionally, and Walmart is not allowed into my city (surprise!). Also, the USA discriminates against its darker skinned population, something some people don't see but it exists. It would be great if people from the USA and Canada would realize that Mexico is also a large North American country that is diverse like their own countries.

I get so irritated with people in this country when they tell me I need to be careful in Mexico. I have a better chance of being shot in Louisville than anywhere I’ve been in Mexico. Hope you two have a great Christmas. I’m dying to get to Mexico soon! I am leaning toward Morelia and hope to get there in January or February. Will let you know.

Sadly, colorism/shadism remains alive and well in Mexico. There is more pushback these days, but the discrimination against darker shades of skin is deeply ingrained in the culture, along with discrimination against indigenous people. Fortunately, reclaiming pride in indigenous roots and culture is being promoted and celebrated by the most recent government (AMLO) and the current government of Claudia Sheinbaum. There has also been recent landmark legislation enshrining the rights of Mexico’s “original peoples” (pueblos originarios) and AfroMexicans in the Constitution.

My ex husband is from Puebla and was very racist towards other Mexicans. In his opinion if someone wasn't from Puebla or Mexico City, they were trash. He wouldn't even wash his clothes at a laundromat where other Mexicans washed their clothes, we had to drive 20 minutes out of our way to go to a more white neighborhood. I'm very glad he's my ex!

Paulette-have you tried cooking your own Chinese at home? I just made a great chicken stir fry last night that turned out better than a lot of Chinese restaurants I've eaten at. As long as I have garlic, soy sauce, ginger, honey, and chicken, I will be fine anywhere in the world!

PS the fireworks are always due to church celebrations of Virgin of Guadalupe near December 12th or the similar appearances of Virgin Mary like here in Jalisco named the Virgin of Zapopan and they have the tradition the Virgin visit all churches during a period of time before returning to Zapopan the 12th of October, so if you are near a church or a chapel you’ll listen very often . One of my 4 dogs, a Chihuahua, suffers a lot with that and thunders . Supposedly only churches can do fireworks not regular people at homes . About discrimination it’s mostly economical than by color which because of the invasion of Spaniards, indigenous people were poor, now with the constitutional changes AMLO and the actual presidentA, have fully restored their right when they got their lands back and they have been empowered

If you have a medical problem in Mexico let's see what happens. Police might arrive before any ambulances, if any.
In NYC you call 911 and there will be 2 or 3 or 4 ambulances waiting downstairs trying to decide which hospital is the best option for your condition and they will save your life. The hospital will admit you regardless of your insurance (because it's an emergency). If you cannot afford it, you will receive help from the city.
