Cars That Smashed Their Estimate In Our Last Auction

We of course always try to be as accurate as possible with our
estimates prior to auctions, but sometimes there are some vehicles that
prove so popular and greatly outperform what we thought at first! 🚗

Derek showed us round some cars that did just that in our October
auction. What do you think, should these vehicles have sold for as much
as they should? Let us know in the comments...

Guys like Derek with the knowledge he has are few and far between nowadays, there are people who "think" they know then there are the people that really do, not saying he gets every single fact right, but he's probably forgotten more than many of us know anyway 😂

It would be fascinating to see three or four cars that didn't sell (that weren't over-reserved).

I remember a customer coming into the garage where I worked back in the '80's with a stunning red 240Z even the boss came out for a look. Lovely cars and still look amazing.

In Australia there are 6 Datsun 240Z on a popular car sire and they range from AUD55K to AUD135K and all are low kilometer vehicles (highest is 83000K)

Just love listening to Derek’s knowledge and experience. Speaking as the owner (but I’ll never sell) of a Nova Sports Car which was produced in Mirfield, West Yorks, I’d love to know if one of these has ever been through the Mathewsons auctions … I doubt it! 😉

My first car in 82 was a Mark 4 identical colour to the one in the video - £995 - Loved it - Had to get a new engine after one year - Swapped the 1600 for a 2 litre - Happy days

There were SO many of those over here. They got the wheels driven off them and if in the North East, well, they are rusting in peace.... Now, they are very desirable!

Cortina mk5 was advertised by Ford at launch as mk4 series 80 (with supposed better rustproofing).

In the US often we don't bother trying to sell the old cars, we just park them up in the yard, it's so much easier than trying to sell.

I think you will find that the Mk V was the Crusader version which used a lot of the left over parts from previous versions, but for me me the Cortina was the last good British Ford

Looking at the 240Z I think it probably was a UK car all it’s life, right hand drive and old tax disc. But I understand that as you say there are loads of them sold in the US as they were cheap cars at the time. Your right there was of course a mark v Cortina we had one called a Crusader 👍

240Zs from the US would be LHD, surely?

I don't think I would buy a car that has been abandoned under a tree, I don't know how much truth is in that
