I believe he true sign of a Good society is the absence of armed forces, not the abundance. Maybe we should not prepare for chaos but prevent it?

Guns for hunting animals is what we have in ireland not for hunting eachother

Irish police dont need to b armed, its worked like this for years and years, no one is stupid enough to shoot a Garda over here, yes it has happened but maybe less than 5 times over the decades

The answer to riots is not to arm the garda (police). We can see how bad it is when the population is armed, and as a result so are your police.

Funny how an unarmed force can bring a stop to a major riot in 12 Hours...

The weapons they use is "your mother will hear about this" it works 😂😂😂

The riot that happened in Dublin was close to spontaneous. Of course nobody was prepared for that. In any event, use of lethal weapons to control protests or even riots is not appropriate or sensible.

We police by consent not force, and long may it last.

Unlike America we don't allow any lunatic to walk in off the street and buy lethal weapons.

I love watching your videos as it’s nice to see Ireland from a non native perspective. I think you strike a balance on highlighting the positives and the negatives too.

The ARU (armed reponse unit) deal with incidents that require an armed reponse and other issues that a member of the public's life is in danger

The reason the Garda are outnumbered is because their numbers were cut and a lot of Garda stations were sold off. We don't even have a Garda station on O'Connell Street. There used to be one. We definitely need more Gardaí and more stations.

Actually the police were prepared to deal with it, and quite well. They don’t necessarily release what they do and how they do it. But the tactics used come from how they dealt with riots in Belfast as the Chief Coms Drew Harris is from the PSNI.

They would manoeuvre slowly toward groups until they dispersed down side streets. That’s when special ops would catch some of them that they wanted to get a hold of. Then it was damage limitation. The issue was that the police have a stand off policy - they identify any potential leaders and then set out to catch them. Not necessarily crowed control. Different tactics than what they do in the US which is total crowd control tactics - and that can work but just a different way of doing it.

Detectives carry guns and they have armed garda units. Personally i dont think there is any need for normal garda to carry guns

It goes back to our days of occupation, we cannot be policed by an armed force.

Our Gardai have always been an unarmed force,

They would have too many injury claims for missing big toes. They would keep forgetting to put safety lock on. 🤔

That is what happens in a modern democracy. It is not third world like the US or some South American countries.

That was not a gun problem. The riots showed there was a recruitment problem but also there was a emergency planning problem in relation to mobs.
