World’s Most Dangerous Roads | India - Leh-Manali Highway (2010)

It is a road of mountain passes and India’s access to the roof of the world – the Himalayas. This 475-kilometre long route at the northernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent connects the cities of Manali and Leh at the heart of the Ladakh region. The term “highway” applies quite literally, since the route traverses five of the highest drivable mountain passes in the world – among these the Lohtang La at 3,978 metres above sea level, the Lachulung La at 5,059 metres and the Tanglang La at 5,325 metres. Crossing these passes is a challenge for both vehicle and man. The mountain peaks, still snow-capped even in the depths of summer, wide variety of vegetation and the fantastic and craggy landscape turn any journey into a captivating adventure.

The World's Most Dangerous Roads: India - Leh-Manali Highway

A first time release on free documentary.

It's a road of mountain passes - India's roof of the world - the Himalayas. The 475 km long route at the northernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent connects the cities of Manali and Leh at the heart of the Ladakh region.
The term 'highway' applies quite literally, since the route traverses five of the highest drivable mountain passes in the world - among these the Lohtang La at 3978 meters above sea level (13, 000 ft), the Lachulung La at 5, 059 meters (16, 598 ft) and the Tanglang L at 5, 325 meters (17, 470 ft)

Crossing these passes is a challenge for both man and machine. The mountain peaks, snow-capped all year round, the wide wild variety of vegetation covering a savage and fantastic landscape, making this a breathtaking journey..in more ways than one. Pun intended. We're traveling at some pretty high altitudes here.

Enjoy the ride!

Guys, the video was shot in 2010. The road infrastructure has improved a lot in the last 11 years. But still, the terrain is tough. Salute to these truck warriors who are our country's life lines.

This video was shot in 2009, that is me and my friend Gaurav talking about our truck that went off road at 34 Min, it was August 12th 2009. The army helped us in pulling the Truck Out. The best part was we fixed the shocks (Kamaniya) and drove it back home from Zingzing bar.

Always tried to search for this video, found it after 12 years. The Guys told us it will be on TV someday.

I love India's TATA trucks. I visited India when I was a kid and loved watching the trucks go by on the highway. Good memories.

I went to this highway last year (November 2021) It's gorgeous now. Moreover, the Atal tunnel has now finished, which is literally a nine kilometer long tunnel through a mountain that cuts the trip time in half! You don't need to go to Rohtang Pass anymore. The infrastructure has improved so much, that it almost felt like I was in a video game when I went through such good roads in the middle of mountains at an altitude of more than 5000+ meters!

Travelled that road, by minibus, around ten years ago. 19 hours of back-breaking juddering and vibration. Multiple breakdowns, while deathly cold with no sleep. Yet, one of the best days of my life. Loved it, and will always remember it with heart.

Narendra is a Sikh man, his fellow trucker a Hindu. They both pray in a Buddhist temple filled with almost all gods of worshipped in India. This video was taken in the 2000s. Its mindboggling how much have changed since last two decades and how much still remains the same over thousands of years.God i love this country !!

I am from north east India, Meghalaya, we don't have any rail connectivity and depend on road transport for essential items, like these truckers...salute to them

It's shocking to see how fast infrastructure has developed in the region. Just drove to Leh last month from Delhi, the roads were smooth as butter and extremely well maintained. Also, Atal Tunnel is mind numbingly long.

I'm from South India and once I went to Himachal Pradesh and that was the best experience I had ever had. The scenery was soo beautiful lush green forest covered with blue transparent water, waterfalls here and there, cold weather with striking sun, majority of the time covered with clouds which makes it even more amazing.
Recently I went to Ooty in Southern India And believe it or not that place always has cloudy weather and the background looks almost like a scene from Harry Potter. That's the place where I realized hill stations are far better than beaches.
