Chef Tom shows you how the new integrated probe port works on the YS480 and YS640 pellet grills from Yoder Smokers. *Please note, the hole for the probe port is 1 1/8" and not 1 1/4". Please read the instructions if you are installing this into your pit.

Hmm, wow! Just stumbled upon this while trying to figure out how to add a probe port to my 2012 YS640.
It seems there HAVE been several amazing upgrades to the YS640. Yeah it's all great that NEW customers can take advantage of this without an increase in price. At the same time most are ideas it seems would have been hammered out before going into full scale production on a $2000+ unit, i.e., mounting the thermocouple in a way that the wire lead doesn't get crimped by the diffuser plate, having an access door in the diffuser plate, having a port for temperature probes. Gotta tell you. as a customer, it's awfully frustrating to see all the problems you have to address and work around, not be an issue for someone paying the same price later. The cost of being the first and the Guinea pigs I suppose.

Chef Tom, your videos are awesome. I have a comment as a YS640 owner. I would have GREATLY preferred the probe port on the stack side away from the firebox. Already ruined one of my Thermoworks Pro Probes due to the high temps at the firebox side.

That's awesome. I'd love to have this on my YS640 - the existing probe port is too small for the Thermoworks probes.

If its ALL THINGS bbq is there any chance you can review some Traegers, Rec Tecs, Camp Chefs, Fast Eddies, Mak etc smokers?

Hi Tom, hey are you selling the probe parts so I can update my smoker? Looks like it could be an add on to just about any smoker. Great idea.

Do you absolutely 'need' the silicone cap? Or does it just protect from moisture intrusion? I've been using mine without the cap and the slider in the down position and can't see how it could make a difference.

Can us current yoder owners get the pieces as an add on to do ourselves?

I have a 2016 YS640, What would it take to get one of these ports and install it myself? Stinks to think i spent all this money this year on it and dont have this awesome little feature. Thanks (btw, LOVE the Yoder, you guys as a company and i don't cook on anything but this anymore, and ive use more then one brand).

I love how they keep innovating new ideas.. but. Could you maybe just make a slit in a x pattern and slip it through the silicone?? And it still would be a nice seal? Just sayin...
