Yesterday King Charles went to the Lords to announce Keir Starmer's plans for the next year. In the speech the King announced 40 laws Labour plan to enact this Parliament. So let's unpack what Labour have planned when it comes to the economy, housing and transport.

Our mission is to explain news and politics in an impartial, efficient, and accessible way, balancing import and interest while fostering independent thought.

TLDR is a completely independent & privately owned media company that's not afraid to tackle the issues we think are most important. The channel is run by a small group of young people, with us hoping to pass on our enthusiasm for politics to other young people. We are primarily fan sourced with most of our funding coming from donations and ad revenue. No shady corporations, no one telling us what to say. We can't wait to grow further and help more people get informed. Help support us by subscribing, engaging and sharing. Thanks!

Today I learned that the UK has a thing where the king's speech is not actually things the king wanted to talk about.

Anyone happy that politics is already going back to being nice and boring again?

I’m not saying the problems are gone but hopefully the mad flailing around but accomplishing nothing is done with.

Remember, in German (whence King Charles’ ancestry comes), the word “will” means “wants”, so TLDR were just paying homage to that. The question in its original German would be “Was will Starmer als PM”, so the English translation was accurate.

They could save a lot of money by just emailing everyone I reckon.

It now seems that London wants to do its homework
instead of wanting to hold Brussels responsible for the situation.
Previous governments were more concerned with partying and complaining about the EU.

The fact most of the stuff mentioned is stuff we already knew about is a good thing - I would rather that than them swerving and doing something not mentioned in the campaigning for the election

I suspect HS2 being restored to its original scope is in the cards, just not in the next year. HS2 without the extension to Manchester and Leeds was basically useless. This does give Starmer the opportunity to re-tender the project under more favorable conditions with less Tory backscratching running the costs into the stratosphere.

Loving these videos as a non-british person.

Its interesting that labor seems to favor devolving power to local governments. In the US, its typically the conservatives who argue for this.
