Tim Hardin - Simple Song of Freedom

Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
Let it fill the air

Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war

Hey, there, Mister Black Man can you hear me
I don't want your diamonds or your game
I just want to be someone who knows to you as me
And I will bet my life you want the same

Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
Let it fill the air
Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war

Seven hundred million are you listening
Most of what you read
Most of what you read is made of lies
But speaking one to one, ain't it everybody's sun
To wake to in the morning when we rise

Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
Let it fill the air
Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war

No doubt some folks enjoy doing battle
Like presidents, Prime ministers and kings
So let's all build them shelves
So they can fight among themselves
And leave the people be who love to sing

Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
Let it fill the air
Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war

Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
Speaking one to one, ain't it everybody's
Ain't it everybody's sun
To wake to in the morning when we rise
When we rise

Wat heerlijk dit lied weer te horen en nog steeds, na 60 jaar waardevol. Hopelijk luisteren mensen nu wel

I first heard this song as a background piece for a powerful anti-war documentary, sung by Tim Hardin. It knocked me out, and has stayed with me these forty some years later.

Youth, a time in your life, many memories, always remain in mind. The love of this music, make it always a place in life, an Artist who has everything gives a call with the feelings, half a century back, thank you Tim Hardin

We the people don't want war. Doesn't much matter what we want. The leaders start them and we the people bleed and die fighting them.

Sad how revenant this beautiful song still is today. Let it fill the air.

Beats the living daylights out of the Bobby Darin version! One of the greatest songs ever recorded. Released July 19, 1969 reaching #50 on August 30. R.I.P., Tim.

Whoever wrote these lyrics made a number of mistakes! Doesn't anyone see or hear them? Otherwise a great song!

i wish they'd start including this song in anti-war documentaries instead of that awful Buffalo Springfield bit of uncalled for sarcasm

aan de schoonheid van mijn dochter
die ik per slot het levenslicht schoon scheen te hebben ontsproten
wier alleen mijn hart kan raken
als een dondersteen
bij heldere hemelmijn verstands verbijstering doorbrak

I think the it's wonderful except the stereotype of a black man with diamonds.  How does that fit?
