About the Long Island Aikikai
Long Island Aikikai
Founded in 1964, the Long Island Aikikai is one of the oldest martial art schools in the country; with an almost 50-year history of teaching the art of Aikido on Long Island, New York. Situated in a building dedicated to Asian studies, the Long Island Aikikai is the place to practice for those interested in training in a peaceful and friendly environment. Known for its high level instruction, the LI Aikikai has trained countless students over the years, many of whom have gone on to teach elsewhere on Long Island and throughout the world.
Led by chief instructor Edward Hagihara, 7th Dan Shihan (Master Instructor), a direct student of Morihei Ueshiba (founder of Aikido) our aim is to spread the message of harmony as understood through the Asian arts. At the Long Island Aikikai, students have access to more than just Aikido; We also offer classes in Iaido, Jujutsu, and Yoga. Whether you are interested in self-defense or self improvement, the LI Aikikai is here to help you achieve your goals.
Being a member dojo of the United States Aikido Federation, students also benefit from our access to other internationally acclaimed instructors. Over the years, we have had the honor of hosting seminars with Yamada Sensei, Tohei Sensei, Chiba Sensei, Sugano Sensei, Waite Sensei, Konigsberg Sensei, Lehrman Sensei and many other high-ranking individuals.
