The Finnish Way of Drinking - Robert Gustafsson

preview_player
Показать описание
Swedish comedian Robert Gustafsson portrays the 5 (stereotypical) stages of Finnish drinking on the TV-show Time Out. English subtitles. *NB*

Yes, the subtitles are wrong, at 0:14 Gustafsson says "euphoric happiness", not "fool's happiness" (although they are practically the same ;))
I misheard it when I hastily translated it for a friend to explain the Finnish mentality when it comes to alcohol, I never thought the video would get so many views... But the subs are hard-coded so I can't change them anymore.

Tack och förlåt!

okay, as a finnish native speaker his accent is so on point it confuses me. like everything he says sounds like real finnish words, like he was actually speaking fluent finnish, but nothing he says makes sense.... it’s like i understand it and don’t at the same time. basically like listening to a real finnish drunk. so black out drunk nothing he says makes sense, but it sounds like it should. 😂

I'd say it's pretty accurate

Although he imitates a Finn in gibberish, it sounds like our language a lot! He did great job adapting the accent and some kind 'tempo' in our way of speech. I laughed so hard since those stages of getting drunk is true of some people :, D I'm a Finn as well

Sounds like finnish, but its not. Exciting to listen, because sounds like finnish (my mother language) but you still don't understand it. That's good imitating.

Oddly, this is also the typical reaction Finns have when watching their Hockey team play Sweden, Canada, or Russia..

This guy could go to a bar and talk like this in Finland and people would get confused whether they forgot their language

Golden, golden, golden, absolutely golden! Cheers from a Finn! This is so spot on – even the pure gibberish parts were in some weird way well rooted in Finnish phonetics, prosody and intonation. This guy is clearly a genius. I hope he'll do a comedy tour across Finland. All thumbs up!

As a half Finn, I saw a lot of this when I grew up in the 80's from my uncles. You get the whole spectrum of feelings 🤣 I'm no different, but only half of the time 🤣

This is 100% true.

Last year, Robert Gustafsson was awarded the most prestigious Pro Finlandia Medal of the Order of the Lion of Finland for his unparallelled efforts in the domain of examining and portraying the Finnish mind and Finnish Culture.

I have been watching this over and over and over. It never gets bad or old in that matter. And it's pretty accurate too.
