Have you ever tried to play a lick or riff perfectly? Establishing ‘perfection’ during a guitar workout session is one of the mainstay goals of every master guitarist. In fact, one of the common training elements for building high-level technical skill and strength comes from perfecting ‘fun to play’ guitar licks.

In this lesson, I will be teaching a guitar lick that (once it becomes perfected), will bring you more advanced levels of both speed and technical skill. The example lick applies techniques of; fretboard position slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and fast rhythms.

Not only am I going to provide you with an excellent example lick, but I’m going to break down the way the scale shape formats the structure of the lick on the neck. This “underlying scale” process makes sure that you fully comprehend the scale tones involved with creating the lick and how to start creating your own.

We will also cover how to enhance the training through two additional study sequences. The first is the idea of building backing riffs and then using it to learn additional melodic ideas. The second is by practicing improvisation

Andrew, I just want to tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you include content even for those of us who are not patreons (yet). I'm still recovering from my (major) neck surgery (2 disks removed, 3 vertebrae fused), and while I am feeling better with no more nerve impingement, I'm not yet to the point where I can practice regularly. Before the surgery, it got to where I could only play for a few minutes at a time, then the pain just got too bad! Now, I still can't even imagine trying to support a guitar with a strap around my neck, plus I still can't really even tilt my head down to see what I'm doing on the fretboard, I can't read or work on my laptop. I try to hold (or support) a book, tablet or whatever up high, so I'm not bending my neck... But it still ends up hurting.
Anyway, 'nuff o' that!
I'll keep working on my hand strength, see ya on the other side!
