This news is a lie. The cruise missile which hit Ismael Hanya was launched from a hill which was near Tehran. Also, the small rocket was traveling at an altitude of 50 meters.
1: First of all, the air defense systems are stationed alongside the border and near sensitive assets like nuclear facilities.
2: Air defense systems are made to intercept foreign coming missiles, not inborn ones.
3: No air defense can intercept any projectile which is flying at such a low altitude(50 meters) or any projectile which is launched from close proximity e.g 20km or 40 km.

This Newyork times Post is one of those propaganda news which is to create a perception that Israel is strong and winning the war. I am not a weapon expert but I have intense research in it. A military is not powerful because it has weapons that seems to be out of a skyfy movie. Israel is ranked 14th in military index which is true on paper only. In reality it may come at 50 or so. Iran has very low technological prowess but still it is ahead of Israel. Why? Because Iran is building its military to counter threats like USA while Israel is building its military to increase their ranking on paper. They are also using their lobby to pump up such rankings.

One proof of this is that if you look closely on the military deaths in Israeli forces, you can see that Israel have Majors or Major general rank soldiers aged at 26 years old. Literally! In Pakistan Army it takes 2 years just for training, 3 Years at second lieutenant, 3 years at lietenant then 5 years at captain and etc.... To reach major post it would take around 12 to 15 year in Pakistan Army, without factoring in 2 years of PMA training. But here in IDF. 6 months just for training on how to attack civilians, and in 3 to 6 years, you are at major general. Piece of cake isn't it? Now imagine a humangus force of around 500, 000 strong but than imagine soldiers who are major general at 26 and then imagine reservist who only have experience of 2 years of services including 6 months of training.
