The November NEW ON NAXOS presents conductor Marin Alsop’s first recording as chief conductor of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. They perform Paul Hindemith’s Symphony ‘Mathis der Maler’, one-act opera Sancta Susanna, and the suite Nusch-Nuschi-Tänze. Internationally known for her innovative approach to programming, Alsop has an extensive Naxos discography including acclaimed cycles of Brahms, Dvořák, and Prokofiev symphonies. Her Bernstein recordings on Naxos received universal critical acclaim, with Gramophone commenting: ‘Alsop, whether she’s in Bournemouth, Baltimore or São Paulo, always there’s that sense of enthusiastic authority, never overbearing which works in the music’s favour’.
Other highlights include: Gabriel Schwabe’s new recording of Cello Concertos by Edward Elgar and Frank Bridge, accompanied by the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and Christopher Ward; African-American composer Florence Beatrice Price’s Third Symphony and Ethiopia’s Shadow in America, again recorded by the Vienna RSO under John Jeter; GRAMMY nominee Darrell Ang conducting Gabriel Pierné’s Ramuntcho and Cydalise et le Chèvre-pied Suites with the Orchestre National de Lille; the world premiere recording of Kevin Puts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Silent Night, presented by the Minnesota Opera; and many more.
