I’d love to visit the mansion! She was definitely lucky to have such an iconic family name!

I have heard that after the big quake of 1906, there were places so damaged that she just had her workers close access to that area. That would explain stairways to nowhere and door's opening to air. She didn't want to take the time to rebuild what was damaged

The story of The Winchester Mansion is what happens when fact is replaced with fiction. In 1906 a large portion of the Mansion was destroyed by an earthquake. This is why you have stair ways to nowhere, doors that open to walls and nowhere, those portions of the home were not rebuilt and no longer exist. Along with an elaborate self designed drainage system to remove access water from Sarah Winchester’s multitude of house plants. The whole ghost angle was created after her death to make a tourist attraction for people who look no further than the surface level on stories and has been retold till it is accepted as fact.

I’d love to see a complete tour of this crazy mansion. It’s quite beautiful from the outside.

A fun fact: i went to the Winchester mystery house, and i saw a small green orb flying around one of the rooms. According to some people, a green orb may possibly mean that there is a spirit😳

I went there as a kid, all I remember is I dropped a gummy alligator in the parking lot that I bought at the gift shop.

I've visited the house a few times . It's interesting. Not at all sinister, in my opinion. The gift shop is the most terrifying part.

The lady thought the house was haunted so she kept building so the ghost wouldn’t find her

Lol I wish I had enough money to buy an apartment, let alone build a house that has stairs to the ceiling

A lot about the life of Sarah Winchester was fabricated through gossip and such. The story about her constantly building the mansion to appease vengeful spirits was a made up fantasy. Sarah had an architectural nature much like her father. She had endured so much tragedy in her life. Sarah kept on building as a way to deal with grief and pass the time. One thing that I learned was that the mansion was damaged during an earthquake in 1906. Rather than start over, Sarah ordered her crew to repair the damage and block off parts of the mansion. She stopped any further construction on the house after the earthquake.

I personally don't believe in ghosts. I don't think The Winchester Mystery House is haunted by vengeful spirits or Sarah Winchester herself. But even without the made up lore surrounding the house, I wouldn't be surprised if people believe Sarah never left the house.
