Moanas necklace was previously her grandma's necklace and the one she had has a little locket which she keeps the heart of tafiti in but her dad's was just bones on a string like Mouis

No the ocean choose Moana so it gave her the stone. He had the necklace every chief wore🤯🤯🤯

The necklace is the symbol of the wayfinders. It’s passed down from the chief to the heir as a charm each time they go out to find a new island. Her father could have easily had it but after loosing his friend, he grew to fear the ocean and gave it back to his mother. He knew about the boats and obviously began to hate their past so giving up the symbol of the wayfinder’s necklace makes sense.

Also in the of the video we see the leader with the same necklace so does that mean he was chosen even before be father. And the argument were he said that the father was scared only to apply to him because the older chief was not scared of sailing but also had the same necklace
