it's an iatrogenic condition called tsw (topical steroid withdrawal). it results from the extended use of topical corticosteroids, prescribed for prior skin conditions like eczema. tsw triggers withdrawal symptoms upon discontinuation, leading to severe physical and mental symptoms. tsw is inherently unpredictable, but complete healing is possible with time. unfortunately, due to limited research within the medical community, those dealing with tsw often rely on shared experiences from others who have gone through it and the insights of the few doctors and practitioners who comprehend the condition. as of now, there is no specific cure, and the healing process demands extensive time for the body to recover.

I had a much smaller case of TSW on my face, it was devastating because no one told me steroids disrupt melanin production.
As Black woman I was so embarrassed having this pink flaky patch on my face…long story short I went to Barbados to visit my family and got into the sea, and I could hear my scalp crackling and sizzling. I told my mom (an RN) and she brought me back to the ocean every day for the rest of our trip. We talked about how when she grew up in Barbados they went to the sea to heal so many issues, and she was devastated that she didn’t think to bring me sooner knowing how long I struggled with it.

I’ve had psoriasis my whole life & I had a dermatologist who told me she didn’t want to put me on medication or steroids right away, she suggested I swim in the ocean and get at least 20 min of morning sun (before 10am) everyday. I’ve never felt healthier in my life. I’ve fallen out of that routine and my psoriasis has gotten bad again. This just inspired me to get back to that lifestyle! I saw one of your vids on tik tok and i quit my topical steroids immediately. I was on clobetasol for like 6 months so I was terrified, but luckily I had a comparatively more mild withdrawal period than what you have gone through. I just saw your video pop up and I clicked on to see the update! I had no idea you were with him, but I know Chris! He was my neighbor growing up, he literally lived down the street and my younger sister was in his age group and good friends with him! He moved away I think sometime when they were in HS, but its so cool to see he is doing good! I wish you much luck on your healing and career journey!!!!

Born & raised in Florida, started surfing when I was 30 years old. Any time and I mean ANY TIME I had/have acne or wound as a teen & adult, if I go into the ocean - it heals almost immediately. Wow this brings back memories and it’s so true !
I took my daughter to Cancun for her 8th grade graduation present and she had just come down with eczema that year when she was 14. Once she got in the water she was feeling stinging from the salt in sea water but next day and after the salt was healing her skin. Upon returning home I found a fantastic dermatologist and when I told him of this he said it was iodine deficiency and after over $1000 spent on derm docs who would only prescribe topical steroid creams a $7 bottle of boiron pills did the trick she has healed her eczema

My daughter had eczema and someone told me that salt water would heal her. Next thing I do: plan a holiday to the sea side, 2 weeks swimming in the sea as much as we could. I continued to add sea salt to her baths. She was healed and 20 years on every now and then she still adds sea salt to her baths😜 I am very happy for this beautiful girl. God bless you all❤️🙏
