Absolutely..both are highly essentials in now a days advertisement industry...taking images from stock image websites and applied into design campaign those are now old school things..next gen of designing..motion graphics..advertisements all about photorealistic CGI and photography..

I recently graduated from my degree doing still life photography, decided to also take up learning about CGI and product modelling in a 3D space. Trying to get my foot into the industry has been painfully difficult, but having two skills is always better than one and makes you more of a likely candidate for clients, obviously depending on what they want.

CGI has (unfortunately) one advantage.. they can present objects not existing (yet) ans therefore test the market .. for color variants, diff materials etc....

I use Arnold renderer & cinema 4D with GSG HDRI kit. The results are something only Karl Taylor can come close to in real life. A good 3d artist must know light fundamentals & he will be a unicorn.

It is good in the model and the lighting BUT, needed more work in the material like bump map so it can be more believable.

When I'm a website and I see that things aren't real world photos I don't want to buy it, honestly. I mean I think it's good for adds when you're adding the liquid and things not as easily done in real life. But on a website where I'm gonna buy it, gotta be the real thing for me! (I think they both have their place. I love 3d design. But when it comes to real life products, there's just something more personal, more real, about photography that allows me to feel more connected to the products I'm looking at)

As a professional CG artist, I love these comparisons, so much we can learn from. I am a Lighting specialist and everything I learned and copy was from photography/film. Lots actually from looking at Karl Taylor, among many others, and study how they do their lighting, techniques, etc. I always apply real world techniques on my CG scenes, and only sometimes cheat it with the extra options we have.

I honestly think it'll be mixed. I think it's a good idea for photographers to learn some CGI to add creative elements to their shots. It must take a lot of time to compose a complex product using CGI down to the last detail.

I just think knowing the two will make the process much quicker. To take a simple bottle shot will be much quicker than CGI and creating CGI backgrounds, elements such as water splashes will be much quicker and convenient. No longer will photographers need to travel to a location or need big spaces to organise complex and intricate shoots, but just need to do a few simple shots in a small studio and do the rest on computer. So I think photographers and CGI artists need to be scared of the people that know both languages

I absolutely agree with the core message!
However, the CGI here is not really good, the differences shown clearly show that here basic knowledge of PBR material settings such as Caustic, Translucency, Index of Reflection (BRDF) are missing.

But please do not understand Flasch, the look development and the light setting and settings are absolute top class and look great!

The best CGI artist will study photography and lighting and by studying I mean picking up a camera and shooting!

With the metaverse coming, I see a dwindling need for photographers. Probably smart to learn more about cgi.

How does CGI check the box in TRUTH IN ADVERTISING?

Takes longer to use 3D to render food. I can shoot ten dishes in one hour and most restaurants just want nicer photos for their menu and signboards

The quality of the model plays a big role. This one is not so good.

Looks like the CGI versions have very dim lights. Everything is flat and the lighting has less variety, despite infinite possibilities and even impossible lights, than the real photos.

Not disrespect but 3D lightning must be done better then in photography because you have many tricks to cheat ( non visible light, negative light, light groups, shadow catcher and more) and in what you show in the video the 3D CGI is far to be at the level of Karl Taylor photography.
