TRENDING | The wife of Eli Cohen says the Sacha Baron Cohen, Netflix series, "The Spy", is 'all a lie and distorted.'

Story: Related | Israel officially denied reports that Russian operatives had exhumed the remains of former Mossad spy Eli Cohen from Syria.
Officials in the Israeli Prime Minister's office on Thursday denied the reports, a day after Moscow rejected claims of involvement.
Further, on Monday, the Israeli Defense Forces officially rejected the reports and said no progress had been made on Cohen's remains.
"Following a number of queries, the IDF spokesperson would like to emphasize that no progress has been made in locating the body of Eli Cohen, and that reports claiming Russian retrieval of his body are incorrect.

Last week, Russia firmly denied the reports and urged the Israeli media to show a more "accurate, professional and honest approach to coverage of such sensitive issues."
“We resolutely refute the fabrications of a number of Israeli media that Russian representatives allegedly removed from Syria the remains of Mossad agent Eli Cohen, who was executed in Damascus in 1965,” the Russia’s embassy in Israel said in a statement.

The embassy responded to a report on Monday by Israel’s Channel 12 which said Syrian opposition groups claimed that a Russian team had exhumed the remains of former Mossad spy Eli Cohen, lauded in Israel as a national hero for the sacrifices he made for the benefit of public service.
“We call on Israeli partners, including journalists, to be very careful, professional and honest when addressing such sensitive issues. Responsibility for possible negative consequences of this provocation lies on its organizers and performers,” the Russian embassy concluded.
Speaking to i24NEWS' French service on Monday, Cohen's daughter Sophie Ben Dror denied the validity of the reports.

Cohen, who posed under the alias Kamal Amin Ta'abet whilst spying in Syria, was a legendary Mossad agent from 1961 until 1965 until his real identity was revealed and he faced execution following a five-month trial.
The former spy is acclaimed by many in Israel for providing unprecedented political and defense intelligence to the establishment, deemed as greatly assisting the Jewish state and said to have been particularly instrumental in the fledgling state’s success during the Six-Day war in 1967 under Prime Minister Levi Eshkol.

Despite decades of appeals from Cohen’s family to have his body returned to Israel, the status quo remained.
Former Syrian leader Hafez al-Assad previously claimed he did not know the whereabouts of Cohen’s burial site. In an effort to prevent Israel from retrieving it, his remains were moved around several times.

The most recent reports of Cohen’s whereabouts emerge weeks after Russia assisted with the operation to return the remains of fallen soldier Zachary Baumel, nearly four decades after he was declared missing during the First Lebanon War in 1982.
After 37 years of operation undertaken by Israel’s intelligence agencies to locate the body, Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed that it was his country, alongside Syrian troops who facilitated the return for burial.
In a separate plea, Israel reportedly asked Russia for its help in the effort to return Cohen. However, there has yet to be any news of its assistance in this case.

Amazing performance. I was blown up by how well Sacha played the role.

I can understand her concerns in how Eli was portrayed. No one, besides Eli and the Mossad, knows the truth. I do believe it captures the gist of what happened.

You have to make things interesting and dramatize for TV. This wasnt a documentary

How would she know how many times he transmitted? That would be classified information, and he didn't tell her he was a spy

Nadia should be happy more people know about Eli. I binge-watched SPY until 5 a.m. Absorbing, tense, terrific story.

Spies are like paper cups. They're very useful but they're also disposable.

This proves that Sacha is a versatile actor. He is not just a shallow crazy comedic actor.

They forgot to mention his 17 lovers in Syria too. It was sort of a Disney version of Spying.

Amazing series. Though I think Col. Erran Morad would have been more effective, given that he was in the Mossad for- I mean, NOT in the Mossad for 13 years. All kidding aside, he gave a fantastic performance.

There was a normal necessity and need to dramatize events to feed people's hunger for suspense .after all it was a series about a spy .
All in all Eli Cohen was a real hero, and sacha baron cohen did a great job and made him proud wherever he is . Rest in peace Eli 🙏🏻

She is unhappy but I think now more people know of the accomplishments of her husband because of this movie. When they make a movie out of a book they always miss many things. I thought Sacha Baron Cohen did a good job. I wonder if Sacha is related to the Spy’s family?

One of the world's legends....and a excellent example of selflessness and dedication....Hollywood can try to give us a idea..but there is no way to even put the importance to the scale on the front lines...hopefully many more generations will repeat the efforts made to tell his story....

The series is of course going to be about money in some respect! Money = success. But also Nadia said in an interview that they didnt portray Eli correctly but that has got to be nearly impossible she was the closest to him no actor will have been able to portray him 100% right. She said in an interview that the views that has come with this series has now got her a good backing to get her Eli Cohens Body back.

It's not facing that much "backlash", I haven't even seen it. Only a few crazy Muslims get this much attention? It's got good critic and audience reviews! I’m gonna check it out

One of the more outlandish things in the series was the post-modernist, intersectional mythology put out there in this netflix series. Eli Cohen never thought of himself as an 'arab jew' and didn't make such a fuss about his skin tone either. He was jewish, not arab, embraced his proud oriental jewish (mizrahi) background and culture but never cared about these false labels. He knew he could pass for a syrian arab but he never called himself an arab or an 'arab jew' ; how could he when that title is fictitious? the series is so woke. watch a good documentary on the man, not this borat crap.
