Hiya, Rees. Nice roundup - lots to entertain Atari nerds in the coming year! Thanks for the little shout-out. 😀

Rees, if you haven't already read up on the modern VCS system there can be issues updating the system right off the bat. I picked up mine late 2022 during a big sale too and waited a couple months to boot it up. It took a while to figure out why I was in an update boot loop and how to fix it. I don't remember how exactly I ended up fixing it, but it's all good now. Cool system!

Love Atari, I wonder if we will get an ST Mini at some point. As for the channel name, given the theme here I think there's a missed opportunity for "Rees+"

I have 2 GSP's and for the price(around 50 bucks) they are pretty sweet. I also have the VCS 800, Atari 2600+. Retron 77 and Atari Flashback 12 Gold. My fav of the bunch is the 2600+, then Atari Flashback 12 Gold sideloaded, the VCS 800 is nice but for 2600 games this is my order, GSP is better than VCS 800 for paddle games. Collecting Atari Carts is a fun stuff!

I bought all of them (minus vcs) with the Hyperkin joysticks.
You forgot the Atari Flashback 12 Gold.

So many Ataris indeed. If one factors the huge amount of Flashbacks in, Atari stayed in the console side of things (although in the toy range) for what, like 15 years now? And the brand still has some recognition and their hardware still sells? That's pretty impressive.

Nice overview of their recent systems, thank you! Was thinking of buying their VCS 800, too, but then again for the price of importing it, I might buy a 7th Jaguar instead 😂. Cheers.

The way retro games limited took that cool remake of the 800 from us makes me not want to ever give them any money ever again! trolls. Their products are nice though. I really really love my "The C64". one of the computers I own I use the most (not including my modern stuff)

VCS is still going. They ended the contract a while back with the company producing them as they have plenty of stock for the foreseeable. Still making new games for it and 3rd party games, updates etc.

Though, even to this day, they're still dabbling in the obscure (see energy drinks and shoes) 😄

Pacemakers. Jay Miner designed pacemakers after he left Atari.

Would love an Atari+ but can't justify paying £50 for the new games

It feels like the Atari brand is just there to be licensed nowadays, but there are some good offerings emerging by clever retro enthusiasts. I suppose the 2600+ is closest to the spirit of the original.
