Always wanted a Rolex, so finally this year I finally broke down and did it. I was fortunate enough to get an Oyster Perpetual, a Submariner Date, and a Daytona. I am very blessed to be where I am today and every time I look down on my wrist I look down and am reminded of that fact.

I agree with you. I am 50 and I have wanted this watch since I was 15 years old. I have loved dive watches since the ‘70s. My first watch was a Timex dive watch:). This watch was always a fantasy to own one day. It was and always has been a symbol of excellence. The fact that is has basically looked the same for 78 years is validation that others feel the same. I tried to convince myself that it was not a really good time piece. I learned over a great deal of research and interest in Rolex the company, that they are exactly what we all wish every company was like. They are a private company, so that allows them to do it the right way and not worry about stock holders. They strive for perfection, and they are as close as you can get for mass produced goods. Bottom line, I am now in a position to finally own one and much to my surprise, I went to buy one and could not get it. I then researched the supply vs demand and the world has changed. Rolex is still doing what they always have. Always striving to make the highest quality products to last a lifetime, and the market has turned a beautiful and bulletproof time piece into a short term investment for flippers and unsavory ADs. There has always been strong demand for the professional models, but never this kind of demand throughout all of the SS models. Now, the precious metal models are back in demand and they are hard to get. Bottom line, the world has changed a lot in the past few years, but Rolex remains steadfast in there mission to create high quality time pieces without compromise. They are not taking advantage by raising prices significantly. The secondary market is. So the only way this will change is to be patient and not buy at a premium on the pre-owned market. If so, this will level out like all supply and demand drivers. It is a fluid situation!

I think the prettiest Rolex out there is the Skydweller, due to complications plus the nice and clever design to operate it. Very cool watch, in fact is the watch which really catches my attention, anyway Rolex has a big presence and impact on the watch industry, no doubt

I for one are in the few that dont get excited by Rolex… i know their historical importance and all that… i am a history junky for everything! And as a US military member i know Rolex used to sell at our stores for dirt cheap! I also know that their current models with the exception of precious metal ones are way over priced even at retail! So… i will stick to Omega and GS and will never own a Rolex!

I’ve been very fortunate to buy my collection at MSRP with the exception of my Daytona. My wife has her Rolex collection made with precious metals and gems. They’ve all appreciated in price and we enjoy wearing them every day.

Despite the great history of Rolex, the only model I have the intention to buy is the SkeyDeweler two tone watch, other than this I think other brands have a variety of great watches that can be a wonderful choice other than Rolex

I'm 19, and currently actively saving up for a 41mm Oyster perpetual, probably the black dial one. My goal is to buy it on my 21st birthday and according to my calculations. I'd have the save about $400 a month to buy it at retail, lucky for me I got a AD within 20 minutes of my house. My father owns a 2007 two tone blue and gold Submariner. He (I think jokingly) has said that when he dies he's not giving it to me, his only son, and instead would give it to one of my nephews.

Rolex makes great watches but unfortunately they are also popular as currency among criminals so you are more likely to get robbed if you wear a Rolex. Kind of ruins the appeal of wearing and enjoying a Rolex.

Is it really that hard to get them from an AD? I just got the discontinued 39mm Explorer a couple weeks ago. Only had one prior purchase earlier this year and that was a Black Bay.
