Sri Lankan cuisine is known for its particular combinations of herbs, spices, fish, vegetables, rices, and fruits. The cuisine is highly centered around many varieties of rice, as well as coconut which is an ubiquitous plant throughout the country. Seafood also plays a significant role in the cuisine, be it fresh fish or preserved fish. As a country that was a hub in the historic oceanic silk road, contact with foreign traders brought new food items and cultural influences in addition to the local traditions of the country's ethnic groups, all of which have helped shape Sri Lankan cuisine. Influences from Indian (particularly South Indian), Indonesian and Dutch cuisines are most evident with Sri Lankan cuisine sharing close ties to other neighbouring South and Southeast Asian cuisines

I had the opportunity to eat Sri Lankan food in 1987 when the military was still on Midway island. We were there doing a month long operation and the entire cafeteria staff was Sri Lankan men. Most of the ding dongs I was there with ate the pizza, hamburgers etc... not me! Every day I ate some of their food. good. I loved the spices. Thanks for sharing. 🙏

Lovely. Though I'm a Sri Lankan this is new recipe for me. I've tried it with my wife and it was delicious... Usually we like to have bread with gravy of the fish with scrapped coconut and in this recipe it was added to the curry we have never tried before. Nice video and thanks for sharing...

This was incredible. Have now added to my written book of favourites. Made with sea bass, hake, squid and prawns. Used Kaffir lime leaves in the absence of pandan(?) Leaves. Worked a treat. Was so good and so fresh. Don't be tempted to skip the tamarind pulp! Was a game changer.

so I made the curry but with just normal fish curry spice they sell in indian markets and I added cardamom and fennel seeds that would have been missing from the jeffna curry powder. Honestly it tastes sooo good. 👍

Exactly what I've been searching for. It has it all...fresh grated coconut, curry leaves, pandan, fresh ground spices, tamarind...I'll use fish steaks on the bone though. Thanks for sharing 👍

hi greetings from sister land 🇱🇰 we will not actually put grated coconut in to the curry. we mix grated coconut with water and extract the coconut milk by squeezing. we make it separate.we use two type of coconut milk half water + half milk ( dhiya kiri ) which you made with adding grated coconut and water in to the curry and full milk ( uku kiri ). hope all you guys make this and enjoy 😊!!!

Great dish!
You could add shrimp paste and/or fish oil for umami flavors as well.
Or is it uncommon in Sri Lankan cuisine?
