The way Boo used Peach to self soothe and vise versa so they can feel anything at all while Bowser sits in the corner dejected is this year's aesthetic.

She asked him for help for their mistake, they’re just as bad as the other, but Boo is willing to take the blame, that’s why he’s “helping” her, he doesn’t want his brother upset, so he’s willing to be the monster of this mistake, like usual, because he loves his brother

I think the saddest part is, Boo isn't taking the fall for Peach's sake. He doing it for Bowser. If Bowser think that Boo is entirely at fault, then he can keep believing that Peach truly loves him. Peacj admitting guilt would be admitting that she was just using Bowser, and Boo doesn't want his brother to hurt like that.

That being said, he wouldn't have to take the blame if he hadn't done it in the first place. (Not saying that Boo was solely responsible, but seeing as he's the only one trying to spare Bowser's feelings, it seems he's the only one that actually cares)

I think the range of expression Peach has here is actually really telling !! At first, she looks shocked like she wasn’t expecting him to take the blame that quickly, and then a little guilty— before they got romantically involved, they were drinking buddies who talked about their issues together, so she probably has a good idea of WHY he’s willing to take the blame. That OR she’s taken aback because she realizes that she’ll have to lie and, despite her anger, she still does harbor feelings for Boo. Then at the end she looks annoyed again, you can almost see her switching between “guilty doubt” and “self-assured righteousness” where she WANTS to agree that it’s all Boo’s fault but knows deep down that she should take blame too. Bravo for character complexity !!!
