SO MANY PEOPLE AFFECTED BY CRUISE LINE SHUTTING DOWN.
When Carnival Cruise Line announced the end of P&O cruises in Australia it set off a chain of events. Thousands of cruises were cancelled. 3 ships less sailing in Australia. how with this affect the hotels, tour companies, or even the farmers?

Australia regulations have made it a hard country to operate a tourism based company

With New Zealand turning ships away cruise lines are deciding to go elsewhere

Perth in WA only had the ONE ship that cruised out of and back to Fremantle port. We've lost our march cruises and now we've lost our only within our own state ship. Family was lucky enough to snag a last Explorer cruise in December, but now we have the added stress of paying to travel to Adelaide to do so. Looking at the cruise line up for next two years: ALL Princess cruises. ONLY Princess (So far) and not one starting and ending in Fremantle. Those of us in Perth are very angry and frustrated right now.

Sorry for the suppliers and tourism employees, hopefully things will get resolved soon.

This is a lose lose situation for Australia and for the cruisers.

All those ticked off people can actually thank the government of Australia and New Zealand for making it harder and harder for the cruise ships to make money.

Australia is doing this to themselves.

Cruiselines don't think about the farmers or business owners that will suffer from the decreased activity in the area. The countries don't think about those people either. Too sad! 😢

In March, we did Australia and New Zealand on Virgin. It was wonderful! So many Australian passengers on those cruises told us how disappointed they are that cruises are leaving Australia.

In 1990, my husband & I worked on P&O/Sitmar out of Sydney, so we are sad to see this historic cruise line disappear. Thanks for the video.

Australian cruising was very popular and the Australian government decided to cash in on this popularity. They instituted taxes and levies on the cruisers which they figured the cruise lines would pay. Well, the lines said enough is enough. How would you as a cruiser like it if the costs were added on to your fare? Would you still go on this cruise if the price was $1000 higher?

I never thought about cruising around Australia but I’ve always wanted to visit New Zealand. It looks beautiful.

Sad for people who thought they were planning their cruise of a lifetime

I remember when Carnival gobbled up Princess from P&O, sad, downhill from there on. Lucky i was able to cruise with them before that.

Hopefully, Carnival will find a way to keep those 2 ships in Australia.

Where do you get this information from? It’s not correct. Only one ship, the Pacific Explorer is actually leaving Australia. It’s being decommissioned I believe as it’s an old ship. The other 2 ships are being taken over by Carnival Australia. They are still keeping their original itineraries and other than a couple of weeks worth of cruises being cancelled while they are converted to the Carnival brand, no cruises on these 2 ships have been cancelled. These 2 ships will continue to be home based in Australia as part of Carnivals Australian fleet. Carnival currently has one ship permanently based in Australia, the Carnival Splendor, and now it will have 3. This information has been communicated very clearly with passengers affected, including me.

So, hard for folks to know what to do, next. Very sad, when you have planned the cruise and now you cannot go.

I’m an Aussie who has sailed with P&O Australia 7 times (out of my 15 cruises this far). I have many, many fond memories on board their ships! 😊 It certainly is understandable that people are upset about having cruises cancelled due to the Explorer being decommissioned, and the Encounter and Adventure being in dry dock. If that had happened to me, I would be extremely disappointed. 😞
However, having been on the Pacific Explorer relatively recently, I can say that this ship is sadly on her last (sea) legs, and it comes as no surprise to me that she is being decommissioned. I am actually shocked that she is seen fit to last until next February/March. The ship is literally falling apart. We had a nice time and the crew is fantastic and do their best but seriously the phrase “beating a dead horse” comes to mind. The food was so bad I decided to eat nothing rather than what was on offer most of the time. The two other ships also are in a state of disrepair, but not quite as bad as the Explorer. My hope is that with the rebranding as Carnival (aka Big Daddy), the food, entertainment and the ships themselves will all be elevated back to the level they used to be when P&O Australia was at its best, the way we remember her, or as the new Carnival version of her. Because the way she has been lately unfortunately has been a bit of a disgrace I’m sorry to say. And I think a lot of even the most loyal P&O lovers would agree with me that standards have really slipped over the past couple of years. 😞

Carnival Corp is running a business. I’m sure that other businesses, e.g. suppliers, that need certain information, will be informed as and when appropriate.

Howdy Don, Bigger doesn't always mean better. There are places that won't allow some of the larger ships come to their ports of call. Suppliers will be affected. Wanted to visit Perth. Home to Olympian Herb Elliot.
