[Prologue - Week 1, Day 7]

The minutes ticked by, feeling like an eternity without any news from those who had rushed to the infirmary. The ones remaining in the gym anxiously waited for any updates. Mia Akatsuki and Eve had left to their dorms.

Mai Yamada sat there anxiously, her mind racing through worst-case scenarios. She caught herself, shaking her head. They were still children, and she shouldn’t jump to conclusions.

They... had to make it.

Horu Shiro eventually returned into the gym, noticeably missing his signature green jacket. As he entered, Ronica Wallace rushed over to him, having returned to the gym after sending the two kids to the infirmary. With anxiousness in her voice, she hurriedly asked, “Are Jun and Nahi alright!? Are they still alive?!”

Horu responded with a nod, “Fortunately, the arrow avoided any vital organs and Jun is currently stable, breathing just fine. However, he has to be careful moving. As for Nahi, she’s okay, but her arm has been bandaged and she should refrain from using it for a while.”

The news was a relief to Ronica, who expressed her relief with a sigh, and Hiroto Asai, along with Mai and Suki Hayami, who had also listened in. Yui Niimura’s expression also lifted, and so did the mood of Yuu Katsu. Amira Madrid smiled softly, “That’s wonderful.”

Ronica looked puzzled, slowing blinking as she asked, “Where's your jacket, Horu?”

Horu chuckled in response, explaining, “Well, Jun’s armor was in rough shape, and he was feeling cold, so I let him borrow my jacket.”

Hiro smiled, “That’s really thoughtful.”

“Jun kind of reminds me of my cousin,” Horu shook his head, his expression tinged with a hint of nostalgia. “And Jun is just a kid. It's only natural to look out for him.”

Yui spoke up, “We have to look out for Jun, and the other Lil Ultimates. They’re just kids. They... have so much more to live for.”

Mai bit the inside of her lip as she silently agreed. No child should have to endure the horrors of a killing game or go through what Jun and Nahi had experienced.

“It won't be easy,” Horu’s tone was serious. “Considering this is a killing game. And given what we've seen from MonoStar, they obviously want us to participate.”

“The Lil Ultimates are the most vulnerable targets.” Yuu added, causing Horu to narrow his gaze on him.

“…” Eriya Enomoto let out a sigh; the sound of the door closing as he left, his figure disappearing into the distance.

Ronica stepped forward, “But, let's stay strong. This may be a killing game, but we'll get through it. We can work together to try and find a way to escape!”

Horu's words were muttered softly, “I didn't even consider escaping until now.”

Hiro’s sudden chuckle surprised the group, breaking the serious mood for a moment. He glanced around, a small smile on his face as he spoke, “Sorry guys, but I think the reality of us being in a killing game is starting to sink in. I think I need to go and process this for a bit.”

With that, he stepped forward, signaling his intention to leave the gym.

Mai couldn’t help but look anxiously at her best friend as he began walking away. Sensing the hidden fear in his words, she impulsively decided to follow after him, waving a quick goodbye to the others.
