You can do the same thing, still solar powered, without any of the fancy tech. Look up solar stills basically you place sandwich a small amount of the dirty water under a larger cold bag of it and use a tarp to collect the water that evaporates and condenses on the cold surface. There are better tutorials online or you can just buy them (designed for life rafts stuck at sea) No filter needed. No rare earth metals. Just a smart design and a sunny day.

Too little info. Issue is how long will the filter last and the quality of the filter of microns. But also it would nice if it was distilled which helps a bit, since filters cannot remove some chemicals but good for an emergency I assume.

I have a water purifier that works the exact same way just with a hand pump and never once have I thought “this really needs more electronics!” No space for that thing out in the wilderness, and why put electronics in something you’re going to depend on in a survival situation?

Question; what happens to your off the grid plan in case of severe climate change? I.e. anything that makes it overcast for, say, 60% or more time. Lets add dust to the equation.
