Unfortunately, as a German, I have to say that the Israelis should know better. It was them who suffered the most from our demise of democracy and the rise of nationalism and the unbridled power of a extrem right-wing government. So it's not like there aren't any historical examples of the direction in which something like this is going to develop over time.

The problem with a Supreme Court in a country without a constitution is that it's hard to see what the grounds of the rulings are based on.
Time for a constitution with a bill of rights.

I am Israeli. Israel have never been a full democracy, because not every citizen is equal. The Arabs and the Orthodox Jews don’t have to serve in the army like the rest of the citizens, the Arabs are very much discriminated against by the police and members in the government, and me, a secular Jew, has to pay more taxes in order to fund the lives of the Orthodox Jews who don’t work and don’t contribute to the economy, they just pray. However, this legislation changes everything. Israel may not have had all of the aspects of a democracy, but it did have most of them. This essentially eliminates the judicial branch of the government, and because the Executive and Legislative branch are very closely related in our government system, this is essentially means a one party rule, with no checks on its power at all. Each mother in the Orthodox Jews is having 8-10 children, and it seems that finally after over 70 years of existence, is the secular Jews are a minority. And so the democracy in my country dies. The economy will drastically decline, as no tech company would want to be involved in a dictatorship, and our relationship with our most important ally the USA will crumble. I can sense civil war on the horizon.

Never made sense to me how not showing up to vote made legislators look any better. If you don't agree with a bill than have your name on the record as such.
