One thing I really appreciate about you Matt; you stay neutral and aren't trying to convince us of anything. Just a great presentation of the ideas, clearly from your deep understanding of them.

Thank you Matthew. I have always been drawn to Goethe and your explanation has helped me make the links to what I am understanding how our tohunga (Māori (indigenous) wisdom keepers) understand and engage in the world. Ngā mihinui.

I stumbled across the video while trying to get a different perspective of Goethe's method for an assignment. Thank you so much for your insight and explanation! Helped me to understand this method a lot better!

Excellent video. Thanks for the clarity. I keep on meeting this concept of participation at the moment and your video is a wonderful visualization of the thought process that is gradually unfolding in me.

This was extremely helpful and awesome. I love Goethe, one of my favorite quotes ever came from him. ❤ This is also my method. I wrote a book about the symbolic structure of the eye that perfectly illustrates and matches the sun calling out sight… “Eye of God: Language of Universal Mind” if you think I’m not serious 😂. In it, I show the actual symbolic relationship of the sun, earth, and singularities… all contained in the relationships in the human eye. 👁️

I'm pretending I'm the process in-itselfness of a blade of grass.

The fact that you made this video five years ago, it amazes me to see that you have the language for this. You are tapped in brother.

Excellent video! In Goethe's theory of knowledge by Rudolf Steiner, he calls it rational Empiricism. Just FYI

Behold the Plant by Friedrich Ruckert
(Freely translated from the Geman by W.M. von Heider, with added punctuation by R.M.)

Behold the plant within the seed -
Enchanted form as yet unfreed.

Growth gently pushes root and shoot -
Forming leaves, and flowers, and fruit.

Gaily adorned, with colors fair,
Ornamenting earth and air...

It develops, it unfolds -
All that once, its heart did hold.

Started reading Phenomenology yesterday and thought I'd search YT for people "in the know" on Hegel. I had always heard he was an absolutist, which by now has become synonymous with dry, over-ambitious leaps toward the unknowable, but whatever the explanatory value of his absolute spirit and its historical coming to know itself "for itself, " he is much more complicated than I had supposed. I believe it was a School of Life video that claimed him "unreadable, " which I found not to be true: there is simply a lot to unpack! You seem to have done that very well, and the titles of your other videos all jumped out to me as I looked them over. Have a sub!

very beautiful way of letting it flourish in the mind. also in german there is this mysterious nearness of the words licht and sicht! and ich and nicht which refers to meister eckhart the founder of german philosophy. thanks!

Outstanding grasp of the concept and it's illustration.

Although, if I recall correctly then this philosophy or 'Weltanschauung' was termed *'critical empiricism'* in correspondence between the _imaginative_ Goethe and the _intellectual_ Schiller - not 'gentle empiricism' as some sort of _normative_ or politicized limitation of the scientific process.

The term *'critical empiricism'* of the 'Weimar Classic - literally, the precise description of Goethe's experiences by Schiller - strives rather for full _completion of the scientific process_ through the conceptual integration of the scientist into the underlying real world conditions - and the potential impact - of his work.

It is a view, both Faustian and Christian in their full respective sense, so to speak.

Hi Mathew, thank you for your nutshell explanation of Goethe's method. I transltated the subtitles of this video in to Spanish for educational purposes. I wonder if you need to accept my translation for it to appear in the video. Thank you!!
