Dell is cracking down on remote work by banning remote workers from promotions. Employees are color-coded based on their office attendance, with those failing to comply potentially facing penalties. If you switch to a fully remote role, you'll never be promoted or change roles again. Is it fair to punish workers for wanting flexibility? Watch to see how Dell's policies are impacting their workforce and why many are choosing to stay remote despite the consequences. What would you do? Stay remote or return to the office? Let me know in the comments!

Dell: if you're remote, we will never promote you.
Employee: You were never going to promote me anyway

I'd prefer being told that I'd never be up for promotion, rather than work my butt off just to not get it.

The Dell office looks like a graveyard for your hopes and dreams

In my 20+ year career as a software engineer I've got a promotion every 4 years... by switching jobs. Companies are terrible at promotions, always have been.

I was demoted and recieved a 10% paycut because i refused to go back to the office.

Worth it.

My friend did not fill out an "anonymous" survey and after a week, his supervisor asked him why he did not submit his.

To be fair, Dell like most companies aren't promoting employees anyway.

This is a proof that corporation wants your freedom not working results.

The fact that a significant chunk of remote workers decided for forgo "promotions" to keep working remotely, that should tell you something right there. The only way to get promoted anymore is by changing jobs.

Several CEO's have admitted that the whole 'return to office' project was intended to get employees to quit on their own. It was a stealth downsizing. The executives work Remotely all the time, it has no difference.

You have to remember that the best way to get promoted, and to get a raise, is to just switch companies. Not getting the promotion you deserve is what most workers face on a daily basis. All Dell did is threaten remote workers with the current status quo. For many workers, they weren't going to get the promotion anyway.

At this point the companies need to realise the problem isn't the remote workers, it's the executives and HR that have no work and are just power tripping and remove them

Don't kid yourselves, they know exactly who said what on those surveys. I did an "Anonymous" survey a few years back and I got a call to question me about what I had to say. I no longer entertain employers who will not allow me to work from home.

no promotions is a license to slack off. I was a specialist in the army and we are the masters of slacking off.

Dell's cubicles are so spacious. My company did away with them in favor of long rows of 4ft wide desks. Zero privacy or ability to hear yourself think.

Seriously....this is how management acts. I am so grateful to have a full remote job with a company that is full remote. Color coding for employees who don't want to RTO. When are companies going to realize that management is the problem.

Banned from promotion? Well they'll be sorry when I'm leaving with all of the knowledge and expertise comes with me.

Don't kid yourself hoping for promotion to begin with, just work at home

The best advantage of working remotely is that jobs are short-term and require relocation. Working remotely removes the need to relocate

They want to layoff but they don’t want to pay unemployment. If you work at Dell, it might be time to start your job search.
