The real story here is National Rally went from 8 seats to 89 seats.. The party has never been a parliamentary force.. That changes now as it takes a major stake in government opposition.. They stood alone... And got 19% of the vote..

Both Macron and Mélenchon lead alliances of 4 or more parties.. Each of which got 25% of the vote.. Meaning the largest single party is without a doubt National Rally..

They are within a 5 point swing now of outright control of parliament and the presidency.. Its just going to take 1 more failed term for the Centrists and a lackluster effort from the Left to do all they promised here and the swing will happen.. Easy enough to see.

No congratulations for Le Pen from the Guardian ? From 6 mp's to 89 is a pretty impressive gain.

It is not 'The Far Right' it is 'The Right', in that case it should correctly be reported as 'The Far Left' and 'The Far Right', prejudicial reporting

A party that respects its borders and wishes to preserve its heritage and culture = far right

Liberalise everywhere. Never forget what these neo-liberal politcians have done for decades now. Siphoning our pensions and we’re bleeding green from taxes & inflation. There must be another way for Europe.

I’m confused why this is happening now though? I thought we literally had the French president elections a few weeks back now with Emmanuel Macron winning? So why are these votes happening now then? It feels a bit weird to me.

Macron has been cut down to size - if that's possible for such a miniscule man.

I wish France every success in hopefully turning around their situation, better than the way we're handling ours. As the future does look bleak. Here are just two very simple predictions that are heading our way like a runaway train... 1. Fuel and energy prices, are going to continue to soar. Forget £2 a litre, this time next year we could be looking at £3.50 a litre so I guess we can thank our lucky stars for now.

2. Interest Rates : Driven by inflation, and cost of living, these will be climbing, surely and steadily, which was once promised, but unfortunately times have changed. So from what was 1% will hit between 3 - 5% by this time next year. People need to stop and think on this for a minute because the reality is about to hit people by the end of this year when it will go up again before "Christmas" mark my words. You wait and see. I have mentioned this to people not to tie themselves into a mortgage for this very reason, as you will be a victim like those in the previous housing market crash. Where interest rates went up to 13.5% there was a housing slump, and negative equity on many properties, and people were having their homes repossessed, left right and centre. That is where we are heading once again.

Macron is not centrist. He is extreme rightwing. and arguably more so in many areas than Le Pen.

Le Pen and the Right made the biggest gains.

His party is still the largest in Parliament. Losing the majority is bad, but he still has a lot of power there.
