Did you know this about potions in D&D?

... oh no

I have a Goblin Barbarian character that I've wanted to play for a while. She thinks she's a spell caster but all she does is chug potions before Raging. She can't read so she has no idea what she is drinking, nor does she care.

... I need to use this on her. This is great.

Some alchemist drank the wrong potion one day, and now he's permanently stuck 3 feet off the floor.

Permanent heath potion. Aka the bad variant of invincibility. A ludicrous healing factor but no numbing agent

My DM had a different approach to this for me. He asked me to choose 6 numbers, from 1 to 20, and rolled D20s lottery style to determine if any potion effects were permanent.

There's a good reason behind this added difficulty. He knows his players, me especially. I may have gotten a little goofy in a previous game and set a lake on fire. You read it right.

Had this happen in one of our campaigns, right before fighting a Dragon my wizard chugs all his potions, the dm ended up rolling a 100, and a 1 so he explodes but because I'm one lucky bugger the permanent effect was invulnerability so he survived and gained permanent resistance to all damage

So what I'm hearing is I need to make a wizard of divination who moonlights as a potion brewer, then I need to make a stockpile of infinite potions. Like imagine a magic resistant wizard, who can also cast blink on command.

Why wouldn't the big bad do this? because every time you mix potions you have a 1% chance of permanent effects but on the other end of the scale you also have a 1% chance of blowing up and destroying part of your lab/lair.

One thing to keep in mind is these effects are still magical. Meaning they can be dispelled. There are already magic spells that can be permanent, and they can be dispelled. Now, keep in mind that Dispel Magic only targets ONE magical effect. So the moment you start pulling off permanent magic effects, you be come the primary target of the enemies wrath.

Don't do drugs kids! Unless it gives you a permanent potion effect, in that case, do lots of drugs!

A really cool BBEG is an alchemist who is really just a normal dude (maybe even use the commoner stat block) but just has a million potion effects on him
