Signed to Sire Records, Ofra recorded „Shaday” with producers Izhar Ashdot and Wally Brill in both Tel Aviv and England, released in 1988. Her emergence onto the global stage coincided with the rise of a new genre, which quickly came to be tagged as "world beat". It became her most successful album to date, selling a million copies worldwide with its masterfully mixed dance-flavoured songs in Hebrew and English.

We provide full English translations for the mixed language songs.

Re-arranged, mixed language (Arabic-English) version of the Arabic musical poem „Galbi” (My Heart) written by the yemenite poet Aharon Amram.

Lyrics (English translation):

My heart

My heart loves only him
Don’t keep him from me
Which way is the way
To love in your heart?

You stole my heart
You stole my soul
You take my breath away
You stole my heart
You stole my soul
You take my breath away

What can I do?
What can I say
When you're so far away?
What can I do?
What can I say
When you're so far?

My heart

My heart loves only him
Don’t keep him from me
My heart loves only him
Don’t keep him from me
No one else is like you
You’re so rare
No one else is like you
You’re so rare

My heart

Although I love practically all of her songs, Shaday is perhaps my favorite, I still love it to this day! Galbi was also one of my favorite!

Heard this on CBC late night radio in Winnipeg, Canada, in 1988, and ended up buying the album (domestic release).

Thank you very much for this, I was a teenage girl when I fell in love with Ofra's voice, Nothing's changed after a lot of time (30 years and a bit more maybe) greets from Italy to all fans ❤

24' to 34' : Je n'arrive pas à reconnaître la langue. Quelqu'un peut-il m'aider sur ces quelques secondes où Ofra Haza parle et sur la traduction de ces paroles ? Merci.
